Naperville Ribfest Rant
#1
Last night I worked security at the Naperville Ribfest. I'm sure some of you have prolly attended this thing before, right?

Well, everyone who has been knows that this event keeps getting more and more popular, and last night with REO Speedwagon playing the main stage, it was getting crowded at 4:00pm.

It came to be that the organizers needed to make a call on the safe limit of the park, and were forced to close the gates to all guests arouns 7:15pm.

Now the fun begins.

People just keep on coming because they have no way of knowing, unless they listen to the River radio station....so hundreds, if not thousands more people arrive and have to be turned around. Even people with prepaid tickets from Jewel Foods.

Now the REAL fun begins.

The rational people frown and hang their heads and leave.
The drunk people start to argue.
The wealthy people start to try to talk their way in.
The kids start to jump and break down crowd control fences.
The stubbon people start a stand-in at the gates and yell at the police about letting them in when others exit.

This all goes on for the better part of 2 hours.

It amazes me that people can't understand and accept the concept that when a general admission event, with limited space, is full theat it must be shutdown for safety reasons. They argue, they swear, they make creative excuses, they claim they work here, they have a friend, they are off duty cops, they are military, they are diabetic and need food.....on and on and on.

I need abusiness where people line up by hundreds of thousands (yes! 250,000 attended yesterday) and pay $8 a head to pay more for expensive food and drinks!

My advice to y'all...if you are going to Ribfest in the next few days...LEAVE EARLY AND GET PREPAID TICKETS FROM JEWEL, IF YOU CAN.

Now that's just sad... It isn't like naperville has the easiest roads to get to it either. It's already so overly populated that all the main roads run at a trickle. I'm glad I didn't try to run in to pick up any parts at hobby town!

Correction on my part...60,000 per day/ 250,000 total attendance...sorry for the mixup, but yes, still LOTS of income.

Just another reason why I love living in the city! Chicago has proper venues for large events and plenty of experience holding them...

Dave, I have been doing parking for the past 3 years for the Lise eyes to the skies fest. This year thanks to Ribfest closing its doors we got busier than ever. We did $1800 at $5 a car saturday night and last night it was close to $3000(also because Lone Star was performing)!! But friday night we had to turn people away because they cancelled the fireworks. So I kinda feel for ya! But come on what better job is there than standing in the sun all day doing nothing and getting PAYED for it!! Especially when you get to see very nice scenery(sp?) in skimpy clothing! Big Grin :p:

People arn't as forgiving as they used to be.

Yesterday, I tore a engine mount in my truck after fourwheeling. I limped it home, I must have seen at least 3 middle fingers on the way home because I could not get up to speed fast enough. It's like o booo hooo we have to wait to accelerate from a stop.Wink

When I went to taco bell, I was waiting in line with a friend. I was saving a spot in line for my friend cause he was buying. Anyways when he came back into the line the lady behind us gets pissed and cusses up a storm.

I find this kind of stuff odd, I mean I never express my anger to other people over little stuff. I don't really get frustrated and blurt out. I mean why should you? It gets you no where. Maybe I just think deeper then other people.

I was obtaining the proper highway speeds I was not accelerating rediculously slow either. It was mainly the stop signs where you have to merge into traffic. I couldn't stab the gas and have the engine come slaming through the hood. The fan blades where rubbing the shroud making the truck sound like a airplane. So I would have to wait until there is a big enough gap in traffic. I guess people didn't really know what was going on, but still. Don't worry though my friend and I returned the fingers to let them know.Cool

Heard that! I was roaming security before I had to shore up the fence. I could go and park anywhere I felt like it.... pretty freakin' schweet deal. Just couldn't drink any beer while on duty.

I actually prefer the neighborhood festivals here in Chicago much better. They are plenty large with great diversity, music and food.

I've noticed that too! Just stupid people. They get mad over the littlest thing and it's rediculous. Everybody was yelling at me sat. night because the fireworks were cancelled, sorry but I have no control over that! Also I get into an arguement everyday with someone in a F!@#$%^G BMW because they dont want to park where we tell them to, or the people that think they can make their own spaces(and come back to a car that is no longer there!!) Kinda makes you laugh to think that those people are gonna end up having a stroke within the next 2-3 years though!
