Sounds rich on the bottom. Loads up and flames out.

I agree. It should be able to idle without loading up for about 30 sec.

Ok after watching it again, flying over cars isn't the best example for us to tell if its lean or fat. I think it is lean on the high and I would turn your idle up a bit. It loses its smoke trail real fast, so that is why I think you are lean on the high. Also when you have it idle it didnt sound fat, whn you let it idle, does it want to roll as in move forward or just sit there.

Also have you pinched the fuel line right before it goes into the carb. and count how long it takes before it high revs.

Sounds Lean on the high side, and Rich on the low end. I had a Kanai, and it can be a little picky. Richen up the high side a little, so you get a steady smoke trail. Do a couple high speed passes to clear the engine out then pull it in. Pinch off the fuel line about 1 inch from the carb. Count how many seconds till it revs up and dies. Ideally, you want it to die at about 3 seconds. Much more it is too rich, less it is too lean.

If I just get off the gas and stab the brakes until it stops, it wants to roll a bit. If I let it idle for about 5-6 seconds it sits still, and dies lol.

I'll try the pinch test and do what shinner said, and get back to you all.

Saving and then uploading the video now. It's doing the same chit it was at the track this weekend, you can hear it. I leaned the LSN 1.5 and richened the HSN 1, Should I do more? The pinch test comes in around 6-8 seconds before I adjusted the needles, and 2.75-3 seconds after I adjusted them. I brought it inside and temped it at 233 after the video.

(video now saved, currently uploading)

That's the way the Kanai runs. It has VERY little low end, but screams on the High side. The powerband is higher in the RPM range also, which is why it seems to "Wake-up" after about 25-30 ft.

Naw man...It can't be that bad on the low end. I know it needs richening cause right now it sucks.

That does what? I'm still unclear on the shoes thing completely.

The stiff springs along with light shoes would let the engine get to higher RPM's before engaging the CB, meaning more punch/snap right?

The low is right. I know it sounds strange, but I had the Kanai. The lean bogging is only right after a high speed pass, which would suggest that the HSN is a bit too lean still.

It may help out to work with different gearing to get the low end punch, but you will sacrifice Top speed at the same time. With LH's outdoor track, you need the Top speed, inside, you need the low end.

That engine would work great in something with a 2-speed. (the gearing would make up for the lack of Low end, and the higher top end would be complimented by the 2nd speed)

i can't tell from the vid. is that the keni motor. if so that carb has 3 needles
a high, low and mid.
on the carb which side are you leaning? if you are turning the mid by mistake you will have a very hard time. the low is on the slide side. the mid needs to be flush with the carb body.

So...Richen the HSN 1-2 turns more, and mabye richen the LSN .5-1 turn?

I actually like the lack of low end when it's tuned right. On the indoor it's perfect, not like twitchy and sliding everywhere...I can clear everything there is to clear too.

So mabye I should just sell the motors I have and get a better midrange motor? Just a thought.

I know where the hi and low are, but where the fcuk is the mid? I don't think I've seen that or touched it.
