Why is that just looking for a good starting point.

sets ups are very differnt between drivers, track, buggy and prefernce.. Thats why my good buddy slim said his info would be useless.. We dont know what you race/bash, where you run it or how you like your buggy to "act".
Dont mess wit my sig Line tune!

That's a new trick traxxas boy learned from our good friend Chris Arnold last Sunday
The consistancy of oils made by different companies are different. Like Trinity 60wt is equal to AE 40wt, etc... There is a whole science to it.

buy 1 oil make and stick to it. i like the losi stuff, its CERTIFIED to be right batch to batch... very consistant.
if your looking for a general oil to start... 50f - 40r will get you around the track on ANY car. unless its a hyper 7 lol. the 1.1 pistons are crap. gotta go down to like 35 in the front... just dont work well. i run 70 in the front of the K car, but would never have worked in the xray.

Here are ACTUAL tests with very expensive machines.
use these charts as your bible to shock oil. Associated silicone oil measured with Rheometer 09-10-2005 rating WT Cts 10 108 15 --* 20 208 25 286 30 373 35 454 40 525 50 707 60 725 70 960 80 1040 Trinity silicone oil measured with Rheometer 09-10-2005 rating Cts 30 337 35 376 40 505 45 497 50 658 55 568 60 799 70 757 90 974 Losi silicone oil measured with Rheometer 15-12-2005 rating Cts 15 110 17.5 158 20 243 22.5 243 25 294 27.5 345 30 381 32.5 397 35 459 37.5 477 40 546 45 657 50 886 <------------------ 60 844 <------------------ 60 is less than 50 lol, 70 970

here is a claculator for mixing silicone oils... 50% of 50wt and 40wt dont = 45wt.
great for diff oils! http://www.gesilicones.com/gesilwizards/...SESSION=NO

Trinity 60 looks funny, as does Losi 20 vs. 22.5.
09-12-2006, 12:35 PM
well i think a better question would be how do oil changes affect the buggy?
09-12-2006, 01:06 PM
A great idea of how shock oils affect handling would be to download the X-ray manual from http://www.teamxray.com or read the lastest issues of XRC. Factory driver Chad Bradley gives a good explanation of oils and the handling.
