Just got some new additions for my fish tank
Ponch Wrote:lol No why, did you? I think I saw it at petsmart/wal mart.

Cool, good to know. Thanks.

Tex asked if you saw it on TV for 19.99 because all of that stuff is JUNK!

I have never used one of those magnetic scrapers, but it seems like it would be easier to use. I just us a razor blade.

Great find for the tank but if you go reef---light have to go and need more money for that which can run ya.
Stay away from power compacst and look around on Reefcentral's F/S forum.
If it were me I would consider on having the tank drilled with two hole.
Rod's Reef info I gave earilier--he does that.
You will be happy you did this for fish only or reef and no chance of floods this way.

It is best to plan this out now and take the time
It is harder to turn back once it is up and running.

Hey Bio, how long will it be before the sailfin tang outgrows my 45?

Depends on your tank quality and feedings
6 months to a year and tangs require larger tanks.

Watch out cuz there are TANG police that will get all over your arse for having it in a small tank.
A 75 is the smallest I would put one in and with limited # of other fish promarily smaller. They do tend to become aggressive and pigs too.
Go to a Japanese grocery store and buy NORI and not the roasted kind.
Feed the tang that with a feeding clip.
IMO--you should not have got this tang for your tank.

I am serious here guys
If you want to take the time before you go and buy let me know first.
I just might save you the headaches and wasting money.

I have my own recipe that fish go nuts over.

He was only 35 bucks-20%, and I can give it back to the store once it outgrows my tank, plus I may eventually build a 120 in my living room

Okay but the LFS gets the fish for lots less than you paid
There is a huge mark up
Don't expect to get more than what they will get it for and that would be like $10 and then they will want to keep it for a 3-7 days in their tank
If it dies in that time---YOU LOOSE.

Okay that 120 is a great reef tank
Lots of those pics I took were from my 120. Perfect for Aquascaping with rock.
Get that tank drilled if it is not reef ready. 2 for drain and 2 for return
Get a sump for under it too.
Trust me---(Iam no scammer here--LOL) you will be better off this way.
Try not to go with hang on overflow boxes.
With the sump there is less chance of back up flooding and more equipment to fail on you.
All you need is a pump from there at about 1500gph

If you can at all-I plan on being at LHR Thursday and can show you the movies I have and photos of my own set up as well as one I am in the process now.

For the 120--be prepared to spend about a grand in lighting and that is for all of it, Bulbs, Reflectors, Ballasts, Bulb sockets.
You need about 1000 watts of light for that 120 for reef--less if you just want fish but you will want the corals.
Then you will have to get a good protein skimmer and good pumps.
the sump I can hook you up and make one but materials for that is already over $120 but it would be custom to your stand.

Really take the time to Visit Rod's Reef
He will back up what I am telling you and he will tell you I make killer stuff for a damn good price with quality.

I would just hate to see you go about that larger tank in the wrong way and end up costing you more in the end.
Believe me I did and blew a grand out the door only to end up starting over.

LOL, the 120 won't be a reality for a LONG time. I understand I won't get nearly what I paid for the tang, that is absolutely fine with me.

I have one of those overflow filters.....What's bad about them?

BTW
a 120 tank costs more than a 125 does and more than a 180
WHY????

It is because of the depth and 24" height requiring thicker glass.
I don't get it but that is about the jist of it.
The 180 is booga bucks to get set up right and the tank alone these days if you fo to oconnamawac Wisc
LFS sell them for about $900
I make the stand and Canopy for that much too.
Then about another grand in filtration and another for lighting.
Then the inside stuff comes next.

This ain't no cheap deal here to get into this
You can know all the LFS owners you want---you can still get things cheaper mail order and better quality too.

Depending on the one you have
One type has it where it will restart on its own and has an airline off the top
This brand is called CPR
This one most of all needs help and if not kept cleaned everyother day--it clogs and your pump keeps working draining water and spilling it all over.

The other can do the same
In both cases it is also depending on the set up you have going on.
Nothing is better than a Reef Ready tank or a drilled tank to be RR.
Power goes out is another issue to with hangs on.

I had 75 gallons all over due to power outage one time
Another was a small piece of alge--clogged the air way.
