Yes, I understand the fragile aspects of this species. I understand that all odds are against me in keeping him, but let me elaborate about this specific eel.

I bought him from Old Orchard Aqauriums. 1 month ago I first saw him, after reading about them for years, and knew I had to have him. I went back in tonight to look for a black oscelleris clownfish, which they had, then went and saw him. I asked if he was eating. They said, not only is he eating, he is eating FROZEN KRILL. I wouldn't believe them until they showed me. They got some krill on a pair of tongs, put it in front of him, and he downed it like nothing. Ate like 4 of em. I asked him how much, he said 130. I was like $$$SOLD$$$$. I went to be rung up, and he only charged me 99 for him, he always gives me a nice discount.

Long story short, I am now the proud owner of a frozen food eating blue ribbon eel.
I am in the process of drip acclimating him right now, so be prepared for in tank pics in a few hours.
Also, I have attached pictures of the top of my tank, after I sealed it with packing tape, do you think I have enough to keep him in? I don't want to take ANY chances.
(Gets prepared to be yelled at for picking such a species)

I also hope he will not eat my clown or royal gramma, but I understand that is mostly a dream scenario. If they survive long enough for me to buy a nano(within the week), then they will go in my sisters room.

Well that is a bad idea to seal it up like that.
You need to allow for air to escape---gasses will build up.
Eventually the humidity will build up and cause the temp in the tank to increase.
You have to have evaporation all the time.

Invert you acclimate slowly like you are doing and a good thing to use is an IV bag you can get at a medical suppy store. Set the drip and come back in an hour--dump out some water--repeat again.

For fish--just set them in the water in bag--acclimate by temp only---then net them and let them loose.
This is the best way and lots less stress on the fish.
Corals--same as inverts but not as long. Best to quarantine anything for 30-45 days.

For your tank.
The best thing to use is eggcrate which is what is used in ceiling lighting.
Then if need be you can use window screen in addition.
I suggest to do this over the tape idea.

I will read up on this ceiling top idea. Good suggestion. How about poking holes in this packing tape? Would that also work?

Just wondering if you could seal a tank like that if you had a sump. If you could control the heat, wouldnt the gass exchange happen in the sump?

You can but still it causes temps to go up and also does not allow the gas build up to escape as needed.

The best way to look at all this.
Think OCEAN
Does the OCEAN do this?
You want to duplicate that enviorment as much as possible.

Poke holes in in for now but do what I mentioned sooner than later.
It is a cheap fix for under $10

That thing is beautiful! Best of luck. The more I watch your tank evolve the more I want one. Next year I will have my own apartment and will neet to choose: Snake or Reef. I know the snake is the cheaper option, but this setup looks amazing.
