So u think i should go with the bigger and and the 12"?

Anyone know a good site to look at and order stuff from?

I think there is an aftermarket thing you can get, pulled one out of a car at work, from a g6
I know they are out there, you'll just have to do some research. plus a little bit of wiring
LSP lots of Khz, Werks .28 8 port.
Revo 2.5, TRX 3.3 Engine, Center Diff. Fast and Turns on a dime.

motoxer4life Wrote:So u think i should go with the bigger and and the 12"? My buddy (Ian for those of you who know him on here) had a 10" type r that absolutely slammed. Clear, hard hits. I don't see a need for even a 12" most of the times. Just a bigger enclosure the way I see it (usually). I'm happy with my little 10" as well.

Break in for subs
The break in period does two things: 1) it loosens the suspension (the spider and the surround) so that it moves more freely WITHOUT tearing. It's like the first few days of wearing new shoes. They are tight at first, then they get comfortable. 2) it heats and cools the voice coil in cycles so that the resin or varnish on the coil wires gas off slowly so that there is no expansion or boiling. This is the important part. If you heat the coil too fast for too long when it's new, you will overheat the varnish causing it to boil and expand, thus causing rubbing and bubbles. This is why so many people blow new subs when they get them. If allowed to break in over a few days, they will last nearly forever. To properly break a sub in you need to give it short bursts (5 minutes or so) of HEAVY bass. Then play mild bass at medium to low volumes to allow the coil to cool slowly for 20 minutes or so. You will do this cycle for a total of about 10 hours of play time. Then you should be good to go full bore. Sound about right? Tekno EB48.4 HobbyWing XR8 Sanwa M12

What does everyone think about memphis stuff? Theres this guy at this audio store trying to sell me the sub and amp for about $100 each. He says he used to like alpine until he heard memphis, the good thing is tho that he also has a g5 so he would know how to wire everything so it works. I saw his setup and its insane. And ya, the battery is only in the trunk, theres not one in the front and back.

And if i do go with the alpine, do i want the 2 ohm of the 4 ohm for the sub?
04-06-2008, 03:00 PM
Get the dual four ohm, that way you can wire it to two ohms, which most amps are safe to run at.

Are the 2 amps you suggested alright to run at that?

Here is my new recommendation since you seem to just be stabbing in the dark with questions......
READ. Do searches on line. Figure out what wiring at different resistances does. Read about reviews on different amps and what people liked about each. Listen to a LOT of setups, and not just from people that are trying to push their latest stock at you. Learn to listen for differences in clarity. Is the sub hitting every note clean or is it muddy and kind of flowing together?? Find a couple songs that you like with CLEAN hitting bass (no rolling rap bass unless that's all you listen to) and burn them to a CD. Have them played on different setups so you can hear how they respond. Those are my thoughts for now. Don't rush into buying something just to have it.

I have heard a few different setups so far. The guy at one place had the whole memphis system and it sounded good i just wanna knwo if it will have problems etc. And i know the type-r is good because i know alot of people have it, and alot have recommended it.

I have no experience with anything Memphis.

Alright. Im going to stick with the alpine for sure now, the guy there only tried to sell the memphis because he doesnt carry alpine. Not saying memphis isint good, but ive heard alpine and its great. I just need to know exactly what wires and stuff to order.

What car do you have? Talk to people who have already wired it. I can't tell without it in front of me what kind of power wire you need, how long your ground cable needs to be, how long your remote turn on for the amp needs to be, RCAs, etc. It varies. What amp are you going to run? How many ohms are you wiring the sub to? Are you putting the sub in a ported or sealed box? Prefab or custom?
Research is key and will yield better results than someone going "Buy this, this, and this" from sitting behind another computer.

My ears for the first time are ringing. Only happens after concerts for me usually. Pretty sure I got the loudest car on the school lot. Tekno EB48.4 HobbyWing XR8 Sanwa M12

The good think about this place is that the guy that works there also has a g5 and he has already wired his car. but id have to pay for him to help me

Who cares how loud it is. How does it sound is the question. Anybody can make it loud enough to shake the windows or whatever but is your system all bass or can you actually hear people singing to?

Exactly..... for those of you who have heard my Brahma, it will go louder. The rest of my speakers can't though so it stays where it is to be balanced with the rest of the system.
As for the G5..... pay the guy to help you or read up on a forum about that car. I can't sit here without having wired one and tell you how it should be done. Every car has something different that makes certain paths easier with the wires.

I got a couple paychecks and sold the gt (ya mike u were right i sold it) and ordered this:
StreetWires PSK08B Amplifier Wiring Kit 8-gauge kit without patch cable Blue power/silver ground at Crutchfield.com 15 feet of this: Crutchfield: Car Audio, Home Theater, Speakers, LCD TV, Plasma TV 20 feet of this: Crutchfield: Car Audio, Home Theater, Speakers, LCD TV, Plasma TV And im about to order this in a few minutes Techronics.com - Online Electronics Store - 62 Techronics.com - Online Electronics Store - 67 Look good? Then i still need a box and install. The battery is in the trunk already so no power wires have to go out of the trunk. Except someone said something about running a wire to the fusebox or something like that. DO i have to even run wires out of the trunk since everything i need is right there?
