New guy help....
#1
Hey guys:

I need some help, I would like to get back into RC racing. I did it for years back in the late 80s early 90s...back when the RC10 was hot, and the JRX2 and Schumacher Cats were coming into the scene.

Currently I am racing full scale cars, but its pretty darn expensive. Porsche 944 turbo.

So here are the questions:

1. What class is the most popular right now?
2. Does this class run year round?
3. Can you give me a list of things to get me started? Like car engine and radio etc. Try to stay under 1000 dollars. I don't wanna buy beginner stuff, I would rather buy whats hot now instead of buying it twice.

I would really like to run 1/5th scale or something like that....but am guessing that nobody around here runs them competitively.

Thanks for the input.

Thumbs up to Ms NevadaConfusedalute:

1/8 buggy is by far the most popular nitro class, then truggy, gas truck, and MT IMO. If you want to run buggy go far a Losi 8, with an RB or O.S. engine, as for radio anything with spectrum tech.

Which brand is best is definitely always a 'heated' debate. Each has their boosters/detractors. Kyosho/Jammin/TTR/Mugen are popular in roughly that order. 1/8 buggies is the largest class by far and the most traditional. Truggies are gaining and the newest class.
The winter/indoor season is going on now and racing is year-around at LHR.
Ditto on Ponch's recommendations. The O.S. V-Spec is more "racy" than the 21VG but ~2X the price.
Radio/servo is pretty much individual preference.

I would like to run 1/8th scale nitro buggy.....

So as far as popularity the Kyosho is the most popular? Who sells Kyosho online?

I do want to support a local shop, but wanna do the research on-line.

Looks like I may need to expand my budget a little bit.

I would go with either the mugen mbx5r or the losi 8ight, with an RB s3 motor, and a futaba 9351 steering servo and futaba 9350 for throttle servo, and a spektrum system
Losi 8ight with v-spec[SIZE="4"]

Slow,

I PMed you a couple days ago.

Can you toss me a PM or e-mail with some prices.

I would be interested in getting a whole setup. Leaning now towards the Lousy 8ight. But tell me what you have.

I don't suppose you have any of the RTR version....would I get laughed at too much at the track if I started there?

Thanks.

Do you know what specifically is different from the RTR vs the kit? I have looked but haven't found a list or anything like that.

Thanks.

It comes with a few different upgraded parts, and it doesn't come with a motor/electronics. If you get the RTR version you won't be able to race it at any big races because I'm pretty sure it comes with a .26. So I would think it would be easier to get the kit myself.

By big races, he means like the Rc Pro Series Race and the ROAR races. Any race leisure holds (See "Fall Classic", "IL State Championship Race") you should be fine, LH doesn't really care unless the larger motor is giving you a definate advantage over others running what is "legal".
