oops, I did it again
#1
Just in case anyone thought that my custom roll cage was a fluke, I went and did it again. This time for my truck with a .21 and stock chassis. I will try to paint it tonight and let everyone see it on saturday, or at least whoever is at Berwyn.

here is a fresh photo, bad picture quality as its not my camera.

What's it made out of?

The same as before, Bullet proof glass. 1/4" to be exact. I just picked up about 5 square feet last night and cut it this morning.
I was actually thinking about making some A-arms out of 3/8" thick material just to fool around. Should be cool. Not sure about the outcome but this stuff is strong and flexible. I would make a chassis but it flexes too much and I think the 1/2" stock would weigh more than the stock chassis.

I drove it for only about 10 mins until the battery wire came loose and I had a few run-aways. But I can tell you that when it shifts, you dont realize it except the truck start to really fly. I am trying to learn how to better control the throttle out of corners and accelerating so I have not given it a real beating yet, but for the price I got it for........hell ya.
Just wait until you see that cage painted up. I just finished the primary color and all I have to do is clear-coat it tomorrow morning so that its dry by the time I get home from work. looks great so far.
I am having problems posting on the showmerc board so I am sticking with this one for a while.

ok, here is the next brainstorm from me to you. this is the next version of the cage to keep it lower, less weight, and still retain its original properties as much as possible. This one rolls in at just under 8oz which is a drop from the original 14oz cage you just saw. I am going out now to bash a little at lunch and test it out. I think I will keep this one clear as it looks really cool like that. The main reason for the switch was that i wanted to start airbrushing bodies and I would like to be able to mount one with the .21 in there.

I will end up seeing you guys the weekend of the 7th and maybe only on Sunday if anyone will be out there either the elgin track or berwyn.

uh..............yeah the mounting..................................uhhhhh. Its mounted to the shock towers through the body post sockets. I did not like the fact that it mounts there but its the only place where I could get the spread of the motor and still have something somewhat solid. I took it out at lunch and flipped it a few times (on purpose of course......... Wink, and it did not contact anything. I will have to monitor the flex when it lands hard but it should hold up just fine. I'll give it a good thrashing up in Michigan this weekend and post what, if anything, happens.
