I think the smoking ban is alot bigger than the smokers think. This by far is not a small thing, its huge. I am so freaking happy. I have a few family members and and friends that smoke, maybe this will help them quit that crap and live a healthier life.

Don't be so naive, this is about personal freedoms. I am a nonsmoker but I still think it is wrong. I think smoking or non should be a choice of the restaurant.

Did you know that China is responsible for 20% of our air pollution?

I see all these people worried about the wrong things. If that is what someone wants to do with their lungs then I say let them.

Being an American is supposed to be about freedom and choice but there are too many people like you who are so controlling they think they need to control what others do as well. In fact there are so many that they are allowing millions of small changes to be made every day, and are slowly but surely taking away our freedoms.

The easiest way to stop being bothered by someone smoking is to move, lest you forget that this is YOUR problem not theirs.

I dont agree on the ban for the simple fact that were a free country and should be allowed to do as we please. This includes smoking weed or whatever. It should be your choice and yours alone. I do however think there needs to be designated smoking area's that are sectioned off to completly seperate smokers from non. Its like in that one episode of king of the hill when the entire family starts smoking. Hank and Peggy to the smoky's for dinner and the smoking section is a back room blocked off with a door and walls from the non smokers. At least this way if you dont want to deal with smokers then your completly in the free from it.

As a smoker I respect non smokers and the fact that they think it stinks and it kills their lungs as well...

Its about respect, not freedom.

I try not to smoke around non smokers, period....

If I smoke, I let myself air out a bit before having a conversation...

Wash your hands when your done smoking if possible, alot of the smokey smell is on your hands...

Never smoke in cars or closed areas when there are non smokers present...

There are certain things you can do to respect non smokers. Treat others how you would want to be treated.

You share the same freedoms as everyone else. just because you don't smoke, doesn't mean that someone elses freedom has to suffer.

I can completely see banning smoking within a set distance from hospitals or other health care facilities. I would agree with leaving it up to the individual restaurants and bars, as to if they want to allow smoking.

Just as I have the right, and the ability to choose not to go to a restaurant/bar that won't allow smoking, non-smokers have the right and ability to not go to places that allow smoking.

Too much of this country is bowing to political correctness, and it is slowly tearing apart everything this country was founded on.

The bottom line is this, Weither you smoke or not, The whole Unted States is becoming pussified. Yes I said pussified. I smoke so of course it bothers me, I also know people who don't smoke that have said this hurt their businesses. Weither it's smoking, hunting or cutting a freakin tree down someone is gonna bitch. The state we live in is one of the worst there is for these things. I've just about had it with egomaniac tree hugging losers who can't get off there ass and get a real job. All they want to do is screw with my life. I gotta drive 700 miles south toa real state when I want to kill an animal. I go hunting here and everyone is like ahh poor thing. I go to the south where the real red blooded americans live and they want to help clean it. No I'm not sayin everyone in this state is a pussy but the odds are against us TRUE americns here. And while I'm completely about to freak out, If ANYONE thinks that the MUSLIM running for president is gonna make a diffrence...Your right! Hang on to your guns and freedoms while you can cause this country is headed down the SHITTER if he's elected! I ain't sayin that mccain is a great person for the job cause he isn't. Tex on the subject of smoking, Your absolutely right. I smoke. Ask my wife how many times she's even SEEN me smoke. In 7 years she'll say about twice. She doesn't smoke so I don't do it in front of her. My best friends don't smoke so I try not to smoke close to them, Unless my crawler imploded and I'm a little frazzled lol(sorry bubba)
But yes it's a respect idea. But at the same time I do see where the freedom comes in. If more people actually cared about others than this ban would of never been around

I completely understand your point Mike, all I am saying is, Businesses should have the right to make their own rules about smoking in their establishment. If they want to allow smoking, and possibly lose the business of non-smokers, that should be their choice. In turn, if they want to make their place non-smoking, the smokers would have to choose another place to go.

Understood as well. I try to respect other people's space when it comes to smoking. I don't stand right by a door, blowing smoke in peoples faces. When we were allowed to smoke in bars and restaurants, I wouldn't walk into the restaurant with a cigarette, knowing that I would have to walk through the non-smoking section to get to my seat.

Where this issue becomes about freedom, NOT respect, is when the government passes a law to restrict us from doing something. Little by little, the government is slowly taking away rights, but we, as a country, let them.

As I remember, the main reason people left England and formed a new country, was to get away from the totalitarian government that was limiting everything they did and over taxing everything. Now where are we? Different continent, same results. To think, it only took 230 years to come full circle.

Freedom, and damaging someone elses lungs that doesnt want them damage is different. the medical community knows it's bad, and its generally recognized. so for public places im all for it...Do your habit on your own time and stop fucking bitching about your freedom infringment, 99% of people I know that are smokers have no problem stepping outside for 5 minutes to have a smoke....its time to get over it.

I think I understand where you're coming from newguy, and I agree. If I owned my own business and wanted to smoke in the establishment then I should be allowed to. Just like smoking in my own house. The government can't tell you not to smoke in your house so why should they tell you not to smoke in your business that you own.

I also see why they made the law and it is because of health issues. I'm sure all these same arguments were happening when they made a law to wear seatbelts in autos. Really though, it is for the better of everyone and even though they are forcing it upon us, it's actually for our own good.
