Tire foam trimmin' how to ????'s

What is the best way to trim the square edges off tire foams so they fit inside the tire better? Obviously I am talking about the older style non-formed type foam insert.

I hate hacking into foams with a body scissors. Hacking should be left on the track.

Losi tires come with a non-molded style foam and I don't think other molded foams can be used since these tires have a shorter sidewall than Proline or Panther tires. Plus the wheels have a slightly larger diameter. Or will the Proline or OFNA foams "stretch" and work fine with the Losi tire/wheel combo?

i run the "old" proline foams, in the losi wheels, DO NOT CUT THE FOAMS! jsut stuff it in there, it is fine, dont worry about the height of the sidewall...that foam dont care.

hmmm...I don't have any "old" Proline foams laying around. Maybe I'll put OFNA yellow molded foams on the Losi wheels and see how they feel...

Guess my concern was the amount they would need to stretch to fit and that they would tear as a result after a little use..

hehe OK.....I'll see how the OFNA foam works on the Losi wheel tonight.

BTW when I opened the tire pkg I thought the foam was pretty soft.. These will be used inside so the firmer OFNA foam would probably be better anyway. Smoother the track, harder the foam that can be used from what I understand.....

dont use the ofna molded its heavy and too hard IMO, just use what comes with the tires

I certainly dont like how the losi foams fit w/o trimming and tryin to stuff em in i dont think will give a good result when im done. Lumpy and unbalanced.

Maybe ill end up taking chickenfarmer's advice and usingthe Proline molded.

stuff em in, once u glue em and u rev em up on ur truck they will even out

I was unsure the first time I did my own tires as well. I had a set of Clay Boas and the foams looked way too big and as though they would be unbalanced when they were done. As Czech said, stuff them in. Get them as even as you can when you stuff them in and once they are glued and run for a little bit they become pretty close to balanced.

oh i thought u were talking about for the truck, my mistake; ya just throw the ofnas in there, they are as wide as some of the other molded foams but they will work. I dont like the ofna truggy molded foams tho lol

I tried both OFNA yellows and PL grays. The OFNA give the pink tapers a more rounded profile than the PL greys which are more flat.

And I would think a rounder profile would be better tractionwise for indoors.

yes a round profile is good but if u notice the panther tires are wide and the ofna yellow foams dont fille them out so u get quite a bit of dead space on the sidewalls. Werks racing makes a molded foam specifically for panther tires. I would stick with the proline ones

just to reiterate, the tires are Losi Pink Taper Pins for 1/8 buggy.

but i did notice the sidewalls are "filled in" better with the PL grays.

sorry im a spazz lol i hear indoor buggy and i automatically think switch 2.0. but if the losi tires are anything like the rest the ofna foam doesnt fill them out as well. Having that sidewall is important for more precise handling indoor

So Im looking for a rounded carcass with a "filled in" sidewall, something PL and OFNA dont provide. It's one and not the other with those choices.

Ive gone this far so I may try those Werks molded yellow inserts. Theyre medium-medium wide and maybe wider than the OFNA. Or not cut the Losi inserts and just stuff em in there as suggested b4.

the werks ones will be wide enough, but they have a more similar profile to the proline ones. Id say use the prolnes
