Impala SS or Crown Vic? Impala SS please....
#1
This is an old chase video of a 17yr old kid in a stolen 96 Impala SS being chased by officers in Crown Vics.

The crown vics don't stand a chance! Even the helicopter doesn't stand a chance!

I wanna find the vid of the 17 year old kid in his dads m3 that successfully ran from the cops. His dad saw the chase on the news and had him arrested, for all charges PLUS grand theft auto

Actually if you watch the video it was from the stop sticks from what the video says.

It was a stolen car, can't say the kid is taking care of it properly.

The LT1 is a reliable engine. Hardly hear anyone complain about them not lasting even under daily abuse. I know people who have put them to 6000rpm every day and the engines still have great oil pressure.

It was a very worth successor to the Gen 1 small blocks. The heads and intake design were leaps and bounds better. The intake alone needs no porting, and shows very little gain after its been ported. However LT1's love long tubes and a good cat back.

No, I just happen to be in a car club and watch people flog on these motors every time we meet. These cars still demand a premium price, if the engines were junk that wouldn't be the case. The newest LT1 car is 10yrs old, and the oldest is 15yrs old.

Yeah, I don't have any degree's or certifications. Just a hobby, with a shallow pocket so I had to do alot of things myself. Even stuff that normal people won't touch. transmissions, etc...

We are rewiring my car for an efi engine swap (consequently a LT1 out of a 95' Road Master which is the same as a Impala SS) and its taking alot of research to make sure its wired correctly.

It mostly works, but has yet to fire because I'm missing some key components (a starter cheif among them) I wanted to get it going this year, but things are looking too tight, too many responsibilities and too much money to finish it this year without choking the finances to death. Paint, interior, suspension mods I want to do, brake upgrades...

In essence a brand new car with only the bare frame, 1/4 panels and hood will remain if I were to strip everything at once.

Meh...
LT1's werent ok mills but between The 2 bolt mains they used in the impala versions, the omni spark issues, cooling issues and IMO LOW HP/trq numbers (in the impalas) is what kept me from buying one back in '97

Vettes only made 300hp at that point in 96 when the Impala was in production. Yes, it was 40hp down, but the F-bodies were rated at 275hp for most of their life, and later 285 in 97. Realistically, its a very minor difference. The iron heads on the impala actually flow more, but have lower compression. The cam is slightly different too, but not significantly. Most of the difference is because of the exhaust anyways. More restrictive exhaust systems. Internally the Vette and F-body LT1's were the same. So long as you didn't look at a 4.3L L99 (smaller LT1) which was much worse off with only 200hp and 245lb/ft torque. The LT1's were far better than anything ford had out in a sedan.

I will be going with a LE1 setup which should give me a fun number at the wheels without a major loss in economy, and still allowing me to run a regular 3.23 axel and stock stall.

40 H.P. is alot in a car that is that big man.... The cam was ground to have more low end torque which was supposed to help but it still had 7 sec + 0 to 60 times and ran mid to 15's in the 1/4. i loved the cars too i feel they fell short of what they could have been. The top speeds it was geared for was cool 140+ is bad ass no matter what

IIRC, they couldn't keep up with the Cop version of the Cherokees either. I do rememeber seeing one police chase where some kids stole a then brand new to the market Durango. The CV's and Caprices were chasing that truck all over the place and it took a K-9 Officer in a XJ to catch and stop the Durango. Kinda one of those "It takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar" things:p:

There was another one where they were going after some purse snatchers in a naturally asperated (maybe a whole 95 HP) Shadow or Sundance 5dr. The police chased the little P-Body all over with their big bad CVs and LT1 Caprices but couldn't stop the thing. These crooks had the car almost completely sideways on a couple occasions and had the car up on an embankment that was at a greater angle than alot of oval tracks while trying to dodge a Porsche on the side of the road. The only thing that stopped the car was that the driver ran into the back of a Caprice trying to stop him and spun the car and crunched hte front end down to the radiator as well as popping the hood latch allowing the hood to fly open while on the move.

I'll have to see if I can find those on YouTube.........................

ditto. I took a maruader on a test drive once (used 8k on the clock) it pulled HARD and smooth. felt like a rocket ship on a air cushion. If I could ever convince the wife that we don't need a truck I'd be all over one. Then I'd have to make a little trip to the store and get me a kenne Belle twin screw. (and some new undies lol) They just have a very stylish exterior wrapped all up into the interior also. White faced gauges and leather buckets etc. etc. etc. plus the power to woop all over a decent camaro.

Marauders are lucky to run high 14's on their best day in stock trim. The same goes for the Impala SS's. Great cars, love they idea of a fast brick/boat, but in stock trim they were quick for what they were, but not fast overall.

The only F-bodies you'll be whooping on are early 80's lower end models, 4th gen v6 cars.

The high option 82-92 f-bodies with the 350/a4 TPI combo will destroy both a Marauder or a Impala SS even with nearly a full second advantage to the 4dr boats. A 4th gen LT1 camaro/firebird would beat them by over a second in the 1/4 mile, and forget a LS1 based f-body. Those could take off in 2nd gear and still whoop on the 4dr muscle.

I know of a LT1 Camaro 6spd who's trans was busted, no 2nd gear. But his car still put down a 15.x @ almost 100mph shifting 1st to 3rd, then 4th through the traps.

You'd see pretty much the same story with a 5.0 fox body from the 80's against a Marauder or Impala SS.

______________________________

Don't get me wrong. I think a Impala SS is a sexy car, and I'd love to own one. Ditto for the Marauder too. But they just don't compare against a car with the same or better power, and about 800lbs less. Course f-bodies and mustangs don't really have a comfortable back seat to speak of for adults, and the 4dr bricks do.

Different cars built for different purposes and markets.

I did say a decent maro not nice lol. I know they are not fast but for those of us who like kinda of a sleeper family car I'm all in. High 14's are not uncommon with these if you can get traction with the traction control off. If it's on it boggs you down. I had a buddy with one slappin out 14.3's with nitto drag radials on it in stock trim. The only other upgrade he did was bump the timing and a set of flowmasters rounded it down to a flat 14 - 13.9 at 106mph. these cars heve the perfect base to be fast as hell and all inside a sweet ass body/interior. I also know a guy with a ss with a paxton on it (not sure which one) but I seen the slips at 13.4 on street radials. I myself would be driving all over town with a s$%t eatin grin if I could just get a stock maurader lol.
