As a 1st gen user they have added some very nice features. Though I still want to smack steve jobs upside the head for not including MMS support!!! WTF?!?!

Double the battery life, 3g, true GPS, coupled with the 2.0 firmware additions is a very nice gain.

My phone is damaged, so I'll be picking up a 16gb version at $299, otherwise I'd keep my current gen phone till the contract ran out. 1st gen users who want to upgrade need only walk into the AT&T store and buy the new phone, your current contract will be replaced by a new 2yr agreement starting from the date of purchase at $10 more than what you pay per month now.

Are there phones out there that offer as many features if not more than the iphone in the same price range? Yes, do they have iphones slick interface? No. With an iphone websurfing, music/video playback is supreme, almost as important as the phone itself. The screen is amazing. Right now I think I will keep on with iphones as my cell of choice, we'll see whats out there in 2 years when my new contract expires but I expect the iphone to get better and better.

There is rumor that it will include mms by the release date.
Also it is supposed to have improved sound quality, And now you can use any headphones.

And At that price you are better off buying the I-phone. instead of an ipod touch.

I will be passing my current i-phone down to my Daughter And getting a new one in july.

By far the best phone i ever owned.
And now you wont be stuck to using just at&t. There contract is over.

Not quite over yet, its a 5 year contract, the iphone is only 1 year into it. 4 more to go. Still stuck with AT&T as a carrier for a few.

I have a Macbook Pro 15", and we also have some 17" MBP's here as well. The battery life on the 17" is terrible compared to the 15", and the price may not be worth it. Also a 15" could be had for under 2k. The 17" is still using a cold cathode backlit display while the 15" have moved to the LED backlit display. Huge jump in battery life, well over an hour's difference.

Look into a copy of Parallels no matter what macbook you buy, EXTREMELY worth it. Run windows and OS X side by side, recommend 2gb minimum though. Or linux, or any x86 based OS will run as a Guest OS. There are some people who run Linux or Windows as the main OS and OSX as the guest os on theirs.

EDIT: Oh yeah, check into refurbished macbooks if you want a cheaper price. Often in primo shape for several hundred off the price.

Since when did you switch to AT&T? lol

To all the first gen iphone users, the new iphone won't be getting at $20/month data charge like we get now. It's getting bumped up to match all the other pda phones that att offers. $30/month. So be prepared to pay more.

I'm going to the apple store on the day of release to pick mine up. I bought the last one the first day as well. Best phone I ever used. Google Maps is a damn gold mine on this phone once you learn you can use it to search for just about anything! It'll be the 16gb phone for me.

My only real complaint about the current phone is the sorry ass volume and lack of choice when it comes to txt and email alert settings/sounds.

Michowski Wrote:What is the monthly bill for the iphone? Im thinking about getting a new phone. All I am looking for is the phone, internet, and maybe texts.

The current minimum plan is $60/month, the new phones will be $10 more than that per month as the data plan is jumping from $20/mo to $30/mo.

Here's the breakdown of my current plan.
$40.00 - Voice 450 anytime, 5000 nights/weekends, rollover minutes, unlimited mobil2mobil, 3way calling
$20 - Unlimited data + 200 msgs
$10 - 1500 msgs upgrade

Total bill for me is $70 before taxes, after taxes it comes to $82. The new iphone plan will cost me $92 for what I need, though i might drop the extra 1500 messages per month as I only used 17 last month.

Now for data, well now there's a different story, I average about 44mbytes per month download. So yes, I browse on the phone quite often, and if it were 3g I'd probably use quite a bit more.

Also buyers should beware. Applecare does NOT cover physical damage or water damage. If you drop the phone you are out of luck. Nor was it applicable for AT&T's insurance, I don't know if the 2nd gen will have insurance through AT&T available, the 1st gens definitely don't. However if you want there are third party insurance companies that offer plans for the iphones, however they have to be purchased within 30 days of the phone purchase in most cases.

So rocco, any more details on the phone? Im looking at getting it but im not sure. I will be getting the cheapest plan, the 450 minutes for $69 a month. Ive never owned my own phone like this so any info would be great. Im just curious what the monthly bill is, is it really unlimited everything, like texts, internet surfing. Any hidden charges for that shit? What I should say is, can I really buy this phone for 70 a month, and surf the net 24/7, and send 1000 texts, watch tv and play music, say 24/7 doing that all and it will still be 70 a month plus tax?

Like i said, it just plain works great! I didnt know about the touch screen at 1st but its VERY user friendly. The net on it is very fast, downloading music is a snap and access to email and live t.v. work very well. It is signal based so if you have a shitty signal the picture gets choppy but the audio stays smooth. OH AND I LOVE the navigation!!! Works flawlessly. The fact that it comes with two batteries is great since you can use one up before lunch if your like me and fuck off for most the moring at work! HAHAHa .

Thats awesome rocco. What about the bill? Im looking at the one for 69 monthly. Do I really get unlimited everything as far as web surfing, navigation, texts, ect for 69. I would hate to buy it and figure that and then all the sudden have a bunch of charges on there and a 150 dollar bill there. I figure it to be about 80-85 monthly after tax. How accurate would you say that is?

I have the cheapo plan too... BUT i cant comment on how much the bill is since ive only had the phone/plan alittle over a week. But so far it seems as though it is unlimited with everything

Well I got to play with a instinct for a couple hours today and let me say, holy shit. Internet was fast as hell for a mobile device like that. It literally loaded web pages like 3 or 4 seconds slower then my laptop on cable internet. Had live tv, streams, music, gps, camera, ect ect. I couldnt put it down. I killed the first battery lol. It was a great last 3 hours of work il tell you that lol. Il be picking mine up the second my credit cards are payed off.
