winter tune
#1
I received a motor that was last run in 30C weather when it is 8C out now. The truck started quick and idled for about 10 seconds then conked out. Fired it up again and it conked out in 2 seconds. Fire it up again and it's conked before I can remove the igniter and take handle on the controller. First things first... put it back to stock spec so I do. The LSN was in factory screw already and the HSN was turned in about 1 from factory so I backed the HSN out the one and fire it up again. It idles now(erratically) and accepts some throttle movement but dies before I rip it down the street.

So w/ the stock settings, I prop the truck up and let it idle out of control, clutch engaged and I start fucking with the needles in more depth. Eventually 1/4 turn richer from stock on the HSN, **** hair off the idle screw and a turn richer on the LSN and the thing doesn't idle too bad. Fairly smooth, clutch isn't engaged.

Drop it on the ground and if I roll into half throttle it won't stall but is fairly boggy through that fairly slow moved half throttle, as soon as you touch over half it dies. Punch it between none and half and it dies. About then it was too late to run it so that's as far as I got w/ the tune. Now for my questions:

Wtf?
Stock settings; it's a useless piece
1 turn richer on the LSN and 1/4 turn richer on the HSN; it idles.
Any richer than that it; it dies on idle; or won't start if it's at those richer settings.
Any leaner than the 1 and 1/4 turn richer than factory; it idles fast and clutch is engaged @ like...10mph wheel movement.

Doesn't it seem like if I move the needles anywhere I get problems somewhere? What is the frickin DEAL?!

New fuel, new plug(Not sure on the temperature OF said plug). New battery's everywhere(not that that'd have anything to do with fuel delivery)

Kinda wish I kept the BL E-maxx I traded for this Savage X and just stuck w/ the nitro truggy I have for nitros.(which I've never tuned in anything colder than 20c)

Please edit your post to remove the language....thanks.

It sounds like you are chasing a tune there. You never mention adjusting the idle stop screw. When you lean out the low end the idle will rise, so the idle screw will need to drop some.

Check this info about tuning....very helpful.
Nitro Guide and FAQs
Forget stock settings and tune by sound and performance. Colder weather will need richer settings. But not greatly richer usually.
