DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 Wrote:I have what you want!! My neighbor gave me a stack (prolly like 50) small orange plastic cones that are used as protective covers on sprinkler heads during installation of the systems. Before they turn on the system, they pull off these covers and toss them out. He saw us racing in the field and gave us a stack. I'm sure I can ask him for more. I'll let you know. The only drawback is they are very light and windy days will blow them around. I suppose you could weight them with ????.

Indoors racing....I don't own an electric sedan. I would consider an electric truck, maybe like an RC18T/MT

RCDad, check the gallery, I posted a picture of the plastic cones next to one of the RS4's to give you an idea of scale. I will try to get more of these from the neighbor.

i actually think it helped me get over jumps better. Since i got used to my wing im able to jump just about anything with little to no problems. When i took the wing off i was all over the place on jumps. For me it made an improvement

And are you using a similar wing as Tune (1/8 scale on strut)?

note.

there is no indoor nitro onroad or offroad at AJs...soon to be IRP. the only indoor track is the onroad carpet track.

if you are looking to do any indoor nitro racing(on or offroad) right now there are zero tracks in the area. the hope is that the new Leisure track will be complete and they do have plans for an indoor offroad track. but as it stands now they are far behind the original schedule. it was originally supposed to open in july.

----

as for electric being expensive....i beg to differ...in the end all these classes end up being about the same cost. the only cheap way is if you don't want to race and just bash.

----

as for practicing in parking lots....like the other guy was saying....there is NO substitute for going to the track to practice. you can never simulate what a racetrack condition will be like.

i would rather take a brand new truck, car, buggy, whatever and go to the track and practice then run around in a lot. when i started i ran offroad trucks, buggies and a TC3. i never ran them in a lot...i just built them up and went to Leisure or RSJ when it was open.

if you want to get better at "racing" that is the only way. if you want to just bash and have fun then park or parking lot style is great too.

Ok ok ok, we'll drop the parking lot practice discussion.

See you guys at the track when time permits.

Until then, I'll be running the local lots as precious time allows, just for fun, not for practice.

Tex and Nex, thanks for helping me to get my mind right. Next I'll be hassling you for tuning secrets.

Overheard at a race:

"You don't put wings on things that were never meant to fly."

Now a wing on a Revo makes perfect sense.......

I know a couple people with wings on their Savages. Doesn't look bad if the whole truck is raced out

DAVEC-NITRO-RS4: You working Saturday? Wondered if you wanted to test out those cones in a parking lot somewhere.

I don't work weekends. Heck, come to think of it, I hardly work M-Fri !!!

Seriously, time is tight around my world right now. We are gearing up for a major home remodel that starts Monday. I will be packing boxes and moving stuff around all weekend and probably for the next 10 weeks I'll be chained to my house. Sorry. I'll keep it in mind if the situation improves.

Well today was alot of fun! Talked to Nexus quite abit about racing, setting up my cars and various other things. My wife got a big kick out of the fact that he never practiced, he just went up and kicked ass in the a-mains Big Grin

I was doing so much better with the Super Nitro during practice, then, as things always do, I broke a rear drive belt. Had to switch to the NTC3 right before I was due to race, just before the race I discovered the receiver batt. was dead, switched that, then I asked Nexus where the transponder went, well he grabbed a bore real quick and made a hole in the body for me (thanks man!), I then got it started and for some strange reason my trim settings were all off, ok so by this time my race has started. I finnaly get my shit together and ran out there to get in the race. Well the NTC3 handles so much differently than the Super Nitro and even the b-main guys were running me over (literally!). It wasen't long before I was out of commission with a busted rear a-arm and a bent hinge pin.

Nexus was marshalling during that race and saw that I have a severe overstearing problem and gave some excellent advise to adjust my Tx to fix it.

So, we sat through a couple more races than packed up since both my cars were out of commission. My kids had a blast, my 6 yo actually marshalled one car during practice and sat out in the chair with me when I had to marshall.

I can tell you, I was not alone in broken pieces. I marshalled at the end of the long strait away and cars were breaking, and between two of us down there we were chasing after flying tires and more.

Here is a shot down to the right of where we were sitting, that guy in the white hat turned backward is Nexus

A shot of Nexus and his partner, these guys have quite a reputation. I actually heard one guy say, "Here's the two fastest qualifiers right here!", talking about them.

These are a-main nitros and they were insane flying around this turn at the end of the main straitaway

rcdad.

nice meeting you...your kids are funny Smile

too bad you broke both cars. just so you and everyone knows Albert who is always at Tinley does stock parts for the NTC3 and some other random cars. he brings just about everything he has in stock in his car to the track. but just note if you plan to race plan on breaking. at the very least i would try to bring a set of arms and a few other commonly broken parts.

bashing and racing is a whole different animal so over time you will get more used to it. the one thing i noticed was your NTC3 has way to much steering which causes most of your problems. next time out let me take a look at your car and run a few laps with it to see if i can sort the car out a little better.

in the end as long as you have fun it's well worth the time. win or lose i'm almost always have a blast.

----------

the mains were awesome....too bad you couldn't stay. there are 2 more race weekends at tinley so hopefully some of you guys can make it out those days.

Thanks, we did have alot of fun and I was not alone in broken parts. That first a-main electric race there were only two cars left at the end if I remember right.

The Super Nitro sure handled alot better than the NTC3 but if I ever get to the a-mains I'll have to race the NTC3 all the time.

note.

those are really "quallifiers" not "mains".

the timing system they use is just a little different. really it's a qualifier without any specific A, B, C, ect associated with it. after 1 or 2 rounds there is a resort so the drivers of the same ability end up in the same qualifiers.

the actual A, B, and C Main grids are made up based on qualifying order.

---

just thought i'd note that for you in case you start to visit other tracks like Intense Raceway. the timing system they use has more standard names for the sheets. most systems and tracks don't call their qualifiers "mains".

---

Anyway....summer is almost over so hopefully some of you will be able to race indoors. Big Grin
