my daughter kept telling me she wanted a fedder,i had no idea at the time what a fedder was she is 4 yrs going on 5,so she kept asking for a fedder i got tired and said "yeah i get you your fedder" little did i know that the freaking fedder was actually a stinking ferret when we where shopping for the so called fedder i am thinking some kind of toy yeah right, she kept saying that i had to go to the store where i buy cat food so i started to think it was a cat toy or some kind of fish since i have a aquarium and a cat,but she took me straight to this display with these ferrets and at that moment i knew i screwed up since she never forgets what i say to cut it short that thing costed me over $250. for the ferret and supplies, plus this thing stinks i clean that cage every morning and evening and it is just the worst musky smell i have ever smelled but she plays with it and gives it a bath and in return that thing hops and runs and freaks out the cat not to mention it swimming in my aquarium and it is only about 8 inches long,
question anyone every own one of these?
i just took it to the vet and it got $80. worth of shots and crap,i really need a vacation,LOL

My kids wanted one but luckly they let me go with just a guinea pig. Although, the pig, cage, and everything was pretty expensive.

Did you have it "fixed" It will HELP with the musky scent. I wanted to get a ferret when I had my house, but was warned by the store that it would be a bad idea (They knew I had 2 snakes) They said the ferret would find its way into the snake cages and kill the snakes. (Ferrets are closely related to the mongoose).

A friend had 3 ferrets, all were spayed and neutered, and the odor wasn't too bad. Just enough to notice, but not untollerable.

I had 2 ferrets at one point. They are fun but they need constant upkeep and they live for about 15 years. So be prepared to take care of it for a while, lol. One nice thing though is that you can usually take them back to the pet store and they will resell it for you. But if they dont there are NO KILL ferret shelters that will take them in and get them adopted out rather then putting them down. We had to take ours to the shelter. They were adopted out as a pair 2 weeks later.

As far as the oder goes, it should not smell that bad. They do have a bit of a musky smell to them but I have never seen, or smeeled one that really stunk.

All commercially sold ferrets are "fixed". It is against the law for anyone to buy or sell non-"fixed" ferrets, only liscenced dealers are allowed to do so, and your only allowed to buy a non-"fixed" ferret if your a liscenced breeder.

I seriously considered getting some ferrets this weekend. There's a guy in Zion, IL that has a huge cage for sale. $250 bucks and he'll throw in the 4 ferrets that called the cage home. They stunk to high heaven. I was guessing that's why he was getting rid of them. I said hi to the critters, and got back in my car.
