my bench test of two engines |

i decided to bench test 2 enigines
one is team orion wasp .28
one is a sh .28 pro std head button (thats why i wanted to by the one from rocco but that fell thru so i got one from another freind out in indiana)
both engines new out of boxes
i have this mount set made from 1040 molly steel all holes are mounted and fuel tanks are mounted just like in a ofna buggy i used this for the weight so the engines would not vibrate it away, this is my break in set up that i use when breaking my engines in with out mounting them to a chassis right away i use center diffs from ofna mbx buggys to help give the engine a bit of pressure
i used the same pipes 2 ofna picco inline pipes(i have these from my other buggy's)
same clutches,clutchbell,flywheels,springs
now i did this test to see what all the hub bub was about the sh engine
i am using 2 air circulators one facing each each engine and 5 ft away to keep a good flow of air moving
i ran 30% trinity tuned the engines to the same rpm using the venom rpm gauges ,both engines ran at or about 21089-21213 with a average temp of 297-317 on the wasp
and 311-324 on the sh both for 7 minutes
then i ran both at or around 10978-12167 rpm at 278-296 on the wasp
and 284-293 on the sh both for 7 minutes
also keep in mind both engines where broken and idle and bump ran for 7 tanks and changing glow plugs to med temp plugs from ofna the wasp uses a turbo plug so it was a ofna 7 plug and the sh uses a std plug so i used a ofna med plug ( i can not find a part no# but is listed as a ofna med plug for 1/8 scale cars nitro .21 and up)
i stopped both engines rotated the piston to bdc waited for engine to cool to area temp
now for the next 17 minutes the engines ran at 9189-9322 rmp from lowest recorded to the highest recorded temps ranging from
wasp .28 214-256
sh .28 204-243
now the last thing i did was do a sort of endurence test for 1 hour both engines ran from idleing to full loads
refuilling tanks as needed both engines would be refilled with in 30 seconds to 1 minute apart both engines taking turns using up fuel first
now after doing all that and this whole thing took about 9 hours
i recorded the maximum rpm off the wasp was 31189-31256 completely opening the carb as wide as it would go it ran for 1 minute temps hit 389-449
the sh maximum rmp was 32890-33041 completely opening the carb as wide as it would go the temps hit 371-478 for 45 seconds the engines temps started to rise to fast so i had to cut it short
now the wasp temps would bounce between the temp range never going past the highest temps or the lowest during the test and time recorded
now sh was impressive up until it decided to go loco and temps started to climb even though the carb was already wide open
my own personal opinion on my experience with these engines and conclusion of the comparison of the bench test,
all tho the sh .28 pro had higher rpms it is very unstable at those high rpms and harder (at one point scary ) to bring down off that load
the wasp had lower rpms but was more stable easier to bring down from those high rpm loads
both engines where running for 22 minutes then fuel tanks refilled and ran for another 4 minutes to insure no air was in the fuel lines or to ensure proper pressures to fuel tanks
both engines used fuel from the same new bottle of fuel and in the end there was 17 oz. left after this test was done
again my own opinion i have prefered the wasp series engines for over a 1 1/2 yrs now and i have found no reason to change it may be a difficult engine to tune,
but on this day the sh failed to produce what all the hype and hub bub that other r/cer's say and claim that it can do, it may have a higher rmp but if it locks up or power surges up at the wrong time that engine is as useless as not having a engine in the r/c and could cost you a race,or a r/c,sorry guys but after 9 hours and 14 beers and 6 burgers,LOL,i still am not impressed by this engine
heres the interesting part i disassembled both engines you could not tell that the engines even ever ran
no burn spots on the pistons or scoring or anything,
maybe some other day it would been a day of days for the sh but for now my wasps will stay

Ultra MBX Comp. by OFNA. Comes with stock radio, force .26 engine, powerstart, high torque steering servo (HS645MG). Proline Road Rage tires on stock white wheels. I will also include 3 blue and 2 yellow stock tires on stock wheels. I have run 10 tanks through this buggy. Also has new oils in all the difs. I will also throw in a RB WS7 engine if wanted. 330.00 with the .26, 475.00 with the .26 and the WS7. I will sell as a roller too. Will trade for a MT or a decent on road car.I'm selling because I thought I wanted a buggy and found out I really didn't. The road rage tires have 5 tanks on them, the other tires have 5 tanks on them. The WS7 has a little more than a gallon through it.

I'm selling my Savage 25 rtr with less than 1 gallon of 20% Trinity Monster brew through motor. I have driven this truck off road 3 times and the rest have been parking lots or parks. Overall it is in excellent condition with a few hopups and does come with all of the stock parts, tools and manuals. It has been cleaned after each use and after run oil has been used as well. Aftermarket parts include: Nova rc M.A.D adjustable shock towers and cooling head, motorsaver air filter, hpi ribbed pipe, hpi cam style servo saver with optional bearings, Hi tech 645mg steering servo, spare 49t spur gear, 1 set of proline velocity rims with HPI dirt bonz tires and a few extra things I am probably forgetting. If your local and are interested in my truck I will also include a fresh gallon of Trinity monster brew 20% with purchase. I think $300.00 is fair for all that is included. Let me know. Thanks!

So who all has Mini's? |

Ok, I have really been enjoying my Mini's lately. I love racing them over at Leisure Hours, but I spend 50% of my time trying not to be used as a speed bump! I talked a few people, and they said they would run a 'mini' class if there was enough people. There HAS to be enough people, I see 2 or 3 of them there on a saturday, just looking pretty because they don't want to go out there.
I have a Mini Quake, and a 18T, Neil has a 18T, and another friend of ours just got one. That's 3 I could get to show up. How many people here have em? I vote we get a race going! Heck I'd settle for an 'unlimited' class even since everyone has a modified somthing... 1/18th scale, anything goes. Or maybe seperate the brushless from the brushed...
Any thoughts?
The only problem I see is EVERYONE is probably running stock receivers on AM and we'd only have 6 frequency's to use.
Brian
PS: I just posted some info and pictures of a Mini Quake truck that was at the 1/18th scale nationals recently. What a ride!
