OFNA Hyper 1/7, stock, but waiting for a NR p5x, Vspec or a sick on-road motor.

For $300 I couldn't beat it and had to have it considering they usually want $650 to $750 for them. Quality of the car itself is amazing. Very heavy duty, this will stand up to some abuse. The body is very good looking, infact so good looking that I won't put the wing on it unless it proves completely unstable at speed.

Nose to tail its the same length as a Baja 5b. Its big, and half the weight of a 5b. Though slightly porky at 9lbs, the IGT is 7lbs, and the F1 under 3lbs.

E-clips can travel at hundred of miles an hour and increase speed as they bouce off objects...if only mankind could harness this incredible power source.

Now, if only a closer place to race this bad boy on a larger track.

The stock rubber slicks are like flypaper. Just pushing the car side to side at the centerpoint of both wheels took almost 20lbs of pressure when I was fooling around at work with the caliper. It measures force applied. 20lbs, thats about 2g cornering without downforce.

These are my Friday toys for the Rt 83 and St. Charles parking lot bash.
Friday, 9:00pm till whenever. Rt 83 and St. Charles. Anythings welcome but its about 750ft x 500ft of fresh asphalt.

No, that was a OFNA DM-1, I didn't expect to win.

But the DM-One is basically the same thing except about 3lbs lighter with laydown (revo style) shocks.

See the wheelbase is very similar, Hyper 1/7 is 396mm wheelbase, but the DM-One is 387mm, only 9mm difference Only 1 centimeter basically. However overall length is 735mm for the Hyper 1/7, and 660mm for the DM-One. The hyper is 9lbs, and the DM-One is 6lbs. 3lb difference. Basically the DM-One will spank a Hyper 1/7 around a course.

However I bought it because of the price and the sheer size of the thing. Its HUGE!!! It will make your Maxx look SMALL.

one is a kit and one is RTR, that's the main part of the 3lb difference.

I think I saw a build up, and it was about 6lbs. There is much less to it than a buggy. I can see it being about a pound lighter than a Inferno GT which is 7lbs RTR. There is a ton of graphite and the chassis is milled out are completely cut through in many places.

above the specs say that the rtr is 9lbs and the kit says 6.4lbs so unless someone is lightening one then it's 6.4lbs in kit form so that's closer to 2.5lbs difference. Now add the electronics and that's about 1.5lbs so the bigger car is still about a pound lighter RTR. (give or take)

The DM-One uses standard size servos. Same as any other 1:8th and 1:10th scale.

DM1's are probably pretty heavy because of the added parts for the laydown shocks larger overall size and body my guess would be the 1/7 and the DM1 are pretty close in weight. IGT's have a shorter wheelbase and less aluminum than the buggy counterpart so they will be light. Heck My IGT with the light weght chassis and parts and such is just under 8 lbs with the body on and a full tank of fuel. Hyper 1/7's and DM1's are wicked Rc's though.. Whats next Bill? 1/6th? 1/5th? How aobut making that 3rd gen Radio control.. lol!

Lets do it, but we'd need a whole new fail safe system for that!!! 3,400lb runaway capable of 150mph+

1/5th scale is definitely in my future. However this Hyper 1/7 is pretty close to the McLaren on display in als. Only a few inches shorter. At least its AWD though. That'll make it much more controllable.

I'm actually working on getting the Jammin back in top shape right now. Been sitting on the floor working on the mechanics of it. What i really need to do is strip it, clean all of the parts with degreaser, then replace all bearings and pillowballs in the as they are a bit worn. The t-bolts and spacers are worn so replacing those is a priority that'll tighten up the steering again make it wander less.

The "big block" tires came today, they are proline badlands knock offs but I think they'll work very good in the grass. I'll have both the buggy and the truggy out sunday, I'll bring the hyper out too for show, but otherwise its going to be a non-runner because we can't run on pavement.

But friday night I'm finishing the breakin and leaning that hyper out. I wanna see what kind of speed I can get out of it. If a hyper .21 8p can get a Hyper 7 buggy to 40mph or so, then it should be able to take the Hyper 1/7 with its far better aerodynamics to 40+ no problem. Gene's got a radar gun so we can take some readings and discover whats going on.

I got a lead on the parts needed to get rid of the transmission, but it looks like its going to cost a bit. so I may actually end up selling the IGT to cover the parts cost. Plus losing the servo, and reverse assembly would save a bit of weight too. Not alot, but any is good.

No, no video's. But I will have it all back together shortly and with a 30vg to power it. I've got a 528xr on the way for another car, but am actually going to dump the 528xr into the Hyper 1/7. Ought to be a monster then.

Well, the transmission is on its way back. UPS ground though, probably 6 day instead of 3 day. So I may not even have it back together in time for next friday. Assuming weather is good on top of that. Sad

Is the 1-7 built around a buggy suspension? I ask because it looks like it has a ton of caster in front.

Its based on the Hyper 7 PBS setup. Uses same front and rear arms I believe. I'll have to check part numbers on that to be sure though. front and rear diff/bulkheads should be the same. I did that for the pictures. Its an easy plastic c clip that snaps into place either in front or behind the upper a-arm on the hinge pin. Right now both clips are behind the a-arm to give it massive caster. But when I was running it i had it set with 1 in front and 1 in the back of the arm. The "middle" setting which is the factory setting.

Its a blast though. Dips and stuff that really upset the 1:10th scale stuff didn't even faze the Hyper, and rocks that would have made a 1:10th scale owner cry as their car pinhweeled to pieces didn't make me skip a beat.

OS makes an on-road for $280 or so that I'm considering. but I can't find specs on it really. This is the one I'm talking about. http://www.os-engines.co.jp/english/line.../13871.htm, its about the same price as a Vspec. Not quite sure if I want a Vspec, P5x, or this engine in the car. For now a 528xr is going in there, but that ultimately won't have the RPM to pull insane speeds like I want to.

I'm switching to 15/19 gearing soon. Stock first gear uses 13/56 gearing, and 2nd gear has 17/52 gearing. I'm going to switch to the non-reverse 2spd in a bit, which will let me use a more normal 44/48t set of spur gears so I don't have to get crazy with clutchbell sizes.

With the stock gearing in order to hit 60mph an engine needs to turn 45,000rpm! The 15/19 clutchbell brings that down to 40,000rpm. And if I switch to the smaller 2spd with 44/48 spurs and use a 15/19 then I only need an engine to turn 34,000rpm to hit 60mph.

However, with a crappy Power Racing .27 and a JP3 pipe we got it to 43mph on the radar. And later got it to clock a bit faster. At 43mph the engine was turning 33,000rpm using stock gearing in 2nd gear. That engine wasn't really tuned perfect and it didn't have a body on it, so lots of drag.

Yep, good ol' ofna in Irvine CA.

I shipped it out 2day air at work too (cost me $9 after discounts).

I was hoping they'd at least send it out 3day ground.

BTW, to buy the transmission brand new is about $240 bones before tax and shipping!!!!

Ultimately I want a 1:5th scale long wheel base Sportline. God this car looks good, and its nearly 1 meter long, or 3' 4" long!
