Race Em RC Club!!
#26
Hey everyone!! First I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!! I hope everyone gets some rc stuff for Christmas!!!! We went to LHR last friday for practice!! Very very very nice place!! We were all very impressed with that facility! I even burned up my motor practicing!!! Well thats the part of our club name isnt it!! We Race Em, and Break Em!! We are still going through the paper work! We have came along ways so far. My brother and I have been having alot of sleepless nights writing a Buisness plan! Its alot of hard work, but reading the posts on the forums is whats keeping us going! This is all done for you guys/gals!!! We just want all you to know, that this is all going to be built by the community and club members!! We are so excited that this is going to happen!! We can't wait untill we can all have a nice race day come summer!! Well, keep posting your comments, suggestions, we are always looking for suggestions from the racer! We want this to be built how you all want it to be built!! Merry Christmas again!! and Happy New Year!!!

Happy Holidays, too.

I want it built simply, humbly, cheaply, anything it takes to get it built "actually". So you saw LHR. Too bad you are spoiled now. Don't worry about trying to match that awesome place. Do you know how much just the outdoor drivers' stand cost? On the other hand, I raced at a track where the stand was just a 3' high pile of packed dirt --cheaper, less impressive, but it worked. You still have to visit RC Performance in Madison and talk to them about rc track business.

It looks expensive, but we are not going to hold back!! We want a track that will impress everyone!!! Of course we are not going to try and compete with LHR, but we want to be a very nice and well organized track in Northern Il!! We have plenty of time to figure all of that out still. Keep posting guys!! You are keeping us going!!!

Thanks again!!

You don't need to compete with LH IMO. Come summer time, if you have a track thatpeople want to show up at then you'll do just fine. Keep in mind that the MWNX series has races that will take away from attendence on some weekends, but after you get things rolling you should be just fine. I'll be there if the track if up to snuff...

Nitro Elitist?

Whatever happened to just showing up with fuel bottle in hand, dropping the buggy down and just plain old having fun racing?

Thats exactly what we are trying to get to! Yes there will be racing series and club race events, but the track will be open for just plain driving too!! There are alot more details we havent figured out yet. They will be coming soon though!!

How many more details are there to figure out? Are there 3 or 10? Well, I'm not being mean, but that is just what a project manager would say -- what are the remaining issues, write them down, come up with a plan and a schedule to answer them. Do you need any help figuring out any of the details? Assign some of the things on your list to folks who can help carry the ball.

I am just getting into RC planes, as well. It seems like those guys have more clubs (usually as aprt of the AMA) that have to deal with the city and parks. Even they may be able to advise on some topics of that sort.

I am a part of a local RC racing club....and I just can't see there being so many issues with building a "NOT FOR PROFIT" club. I am sorry if it seems like I am questioning all of your work so far, but I have watched a bunch of farm boys slap together a very strong club with out all of these "details" that you guys seem to be going through.

I hope you get all the red tape figured out because I would love another place to race! Justin I hope you did not find this offensive but I was just wondering these things since it seems that other not for profit clubs don't have all the issues you fellas have been having.

I was a founding member of the Dirt dawgs, along with 2 others, we sat in Cory's barn, came up with a few ideas and a name and that was about it. I think from first idea to actually getting members was done in a week or two tops. Granted we had land already, but other than that its getting the word out and not being so secretive (where people may think you are up to something) like alot of your posts sound. We told people when we raced and come out and try it set up a membership by arrangeing discounts, ordering t shirts and vehicle stickers. First year I think we had 20 members and by second year we had maybe 60 or so. Shoot those on here that remember when we first started we counted laps by hand. By the end of year 2 we had a timing system.

You want to make it as easy as possible and as simple to understand and be very clear about your intentions and directions. This way people see exactly what you are doing and where you are going with it. IMHO much easier to trust the organizers then.

We didnt need emails to keep us going or encourage us, it didn't matter to us if we had 10 or 60 guys out there we just wanted to get together and enjoy the hobby as a group.

If your doing this for non profit than don't lose site of the goal of enjoying the hobby. The business owned tracks are just that businesses, so your track can be as enjoyable or maybe even more fun than the business owned but remeber those are business driven where a club is more for enjoyment.

Whatever happened to the Dirt Dawgs track at Dave's? It seems like the club and track got really really popular very fast and then went to hell just as quickly.

I have been running at Dave's track in Elburn for the past 2 years. It has only been there for 3, this will be the tracks 4th season....so when did it go to hell?

The Club is still going and Heine Raceway is the home track. There was 2 tracks on Dave's property last season due to some rain issues, but the races kept going.

The club had great momentum the first year and then they changed all the rules, made the races short, ran the races slowly and just ruined everything. It became obvious to the racers that it was a bashers club. 3 foot high weeds, no water or electricity etc. It's just obvious they don't want any of the more serious racers there. So we don't come. That's OK.

Once you get a bad impression of something its hard to change how you feel.....I see what you are saying and have been around for some of the bad issues. But this is the problem with "clubs" No one wants to help they only want to race. And its not for SERIOUS racers I guess.....when you have a 10yr old kid next to you who has never raced before I can see a guy like you getting upset when he smashes you in to the 3 foot weeds.

Bruce is right... Dirt Dawgs had LH worried in its hay day (sp?) I think some of the people on the board didnt want the club to be big, they prefered the small fish in a small pond type of club, and thats fine i guess... So all the guys who wanted to see the club grow and expand were turned off and the clubs membership shrunk. Last season the club seemed to find a new group of racers who liked what the club had to offer. i wish the DD's no ill will but i agree with bruce.

its just sad that you have to complain about there not being electricity. its farmland weeds are going to grow. The past is the past and were working on improving the club to make it more admirable to other people. clubs require people to come out and help and when you dont get the help the work doesnt get done. they had water all last year minus a race or 2 where the pipes broke and watering the track couldnt happen. And bashing the club on a public forum isnt going to help the club grow or get better.

It might help outsiders like me to understand some of the history of the club, in case we hear something about the club, we can understand if that was only true in a certain era, etc. Some of the history is nice to know, bearing in mind that everyone and everything has their "challenges" from time to time.

I dont think he was bashing it, nor was i bud. The club seems on the rise again so the opinion or past facts arent going to hurt it... Public forum or not.

They say there is no such thing as bad publicity, but it sure sounds like Bruce has a problem with our Club to me.

Last season I had allot of fun racing at Leisure Hours for one of our Dirt Dawgs Club race days, although the soda machine was broken I would never come on a forum and complain about it.

Dirt Dawgs 2008 Season will be a great race season and all are welcome to come and race for fun or competition, even Bruce.

I don't have a problem with the Dirt Dawgs club. It's your club, run it however you want to. Several of us just have gotten a bad taste in our mouths (must be all the dust) and don't care to go back out there. The people have always been very nice but the facility and race program could use a little work.

Bruce,

That must have been a very long time ago, and for someone to still be complaining about it after all these years, must have really been something BIG that set you off.

The 2008 season will be a new year and if you don't want to come out and race with us, thats fine too, have a good one!

And RaceEmRc, good luck to you.

my comments where to give the guy with the race em club some insight not to start a bash session on the dirt dawgs. This is why I rarely post on here anymore because there are people on here that take every oppurtunity to start something.....

Any more posts about the Dirt Dawgs lack of this or should of done this inthis thread the poster will receive a short rest from Chitown........ Lets keep this on track.

Not busting your chops here....but....what's your definition of "serious racers" and being that you said "we" who else do you consider a "serious racer"?
