closing threads?
#1
what's up with closing threads?

It's the one reason I dislike this forum.

some guy who supposedly runs the forum gets a bug up us his ass about something and then puts the hammer down.

Fill me in on why it's necessary and fruitful and how it's helpful.

If you're talking about the recent lh thread that bruce started, it was closed at his request.

Weird.

Tons of posts, after his original post, and you close the thread because he asks for it?

Not to poop stir but it sounds to me like there's some kind of agenda being addressed behind the scenes of this forum.

Looks suspicious for a non-commercial forum.

If I go off on some some tangent and 50 people address my post but then I don't like where the other other people are taking the thread I started I can get the thread closed?

Bruce did not ask to have the thread closed...

I closed the thread, Bruce did not ask for it to be closed.

It has been stated before that all LH bashing would not be allowed.

It was uncalled for him to call out management like he did in a public forum. Also the topic was about the crowd attendance, not about that the grass isnt green or long enough eyc eyc.

I closed it so that it would stop there, but didnt delete it so people could still read it.

yeah it's toy cars, but I was taliking about this forum, not LH.

It's just odd that this is someone's IP address that they put up some bulletin board software and tell everyone to have dialogue here about topics that they create. LHR is one of the topics that is created to be discussed. The odd part is the moderator/forum owner gets bent out of shape at certain things.

I'd assume that because the forum owner is just a paying customer just like me when they go to LHR that the forum they created isn't commercially connected with LHR. Maybe I'm wrong.

I personally want a place that people can vent and not feel pressured. Maybe this isn't the place to vent.

All of you know I love LHR and the employees there, but I thought that this forum was a separate entity.

It is (a seprate entity)... The owner (and a good friend of mine) doesnt want HIS site used to bash a local buisness like LH... Thats that... Understand?

Its a respect thing for all the hard work that has been happening there... This will NOT be the place to take shots at that facility... Its easy to be a screen name and totatly Crap on someones life long work...
You got somthin negative to say ... Say it too the mans face!

It is seperate, but it is not in the proper content to call out manage of a busines sin a public forum when you wont go talkt ot hem personally. I am not going to making an issue here. The owner of this board has made me a moderator, and in my opinion the thread was getting way off topic, so that is why it was closed, obviously ownership has agreed with me. I could have deleted it but decided to keep it closed so peopel can read.

You want to start a new LH thread go ahead and keep it on topic. The toipic that you are refering to was about low attendance, not poor management, not laying grass seed, and everything else.

OK....create a thread on this forum for bashing tracks. All tracks everywhere.

Then redirect any bashing of tracks to that thread.

Call the thread:

Bitch

or

Sour grapes.

I'm serious.

Don't shut down dialogue, is what I'm saying. I think it's productive to have what might be percieved as negative posts about a place to be able to be discussed. It would be constructive. Not necessarily destructive.

unfortunately with the drama in this hobby it is destructive, and remember none of you pay to use this site and the content is totally up to ownership of this site. It is his and he says what can or cant be here.

kenji, I've posted on many forums over the last few years. This place is the least moderated place out of all of them. Other places lock and close threads much much faster and much more frequently than here.

There are almost 4000 threads now. In those 4000, there is probably less than 30 that have been locked (the for sale are is an exception). I'd say we are pretty leniant (sp?).

telling me this is as good as it get's is lame.

there needs to be a place to make bitches without thinking about repercussions.

this should be one of the places.

It would police itself and work it's own path.

If someone makes a negative comment and that comment or opinion was BS or inaccurate all the other members here would call the original poster out.

you have kids i assume.............well would you like your younger kids to read this forum and see people swearing at eachother and calling them out to fight??? im sure you teach your kids to not fight over little things. also this is a PUBLIC forum and there ARE younger kids that read this stuff........when you signed up ther was no screen asking your age now was there? so that means its open to EVERYONE and we dont need one person to bash out a local track and good friends

and about the productive bad posts.........thats what the phone and PM's are for.......not for everyone to read

I'm not going to continue going in circles here. YOu have your opinions, and you are welcome to them. BUt if ownership thinks they are not appropriate he can moderate them. Maybe find a place where you can bash local tracks elsewhere, we like to keep a positive attitude and not complain about things that are not completed. Especially when it is all done behind a keyboard, and nothing ever said to LH staff in person.

I am done with this conversation, because you have your thoughts and are going to stick by them, and thats the way it should be. I dont agree with them so there is no conclusion in site so as Rocco said I am stopping the bleeding.

No conclusion? I just started this as a new thread in the "off topic" forum. We're discussing closing of threads on other threads within this forum. What bleeding is happening in this thread I just started?

Loosen up a little, and let this thread play out.

I'm not bashing or trying to be pushy. I brought up what I thought is a valid topic about this forum as a whole.

If you don't like how this place is run, as far as I am concerned leave. You are in no position to cridisize (sp?) the moderators and owner of this site as far as I am concerned. Put your self in these guys shoes, if you friend owned a track and you owned the forum would you want a bunch of people bashing his business and maybe turning some newer people away just because of someones opinion? If you have some constructive critisizm that would be just fine, but when you start talking bad about the owners and staff of LHR the posts should be closed or deleted, there is no need for this, if you have a problem with someone or something that is going on there you need to address it to them personally, not over the internet. Anyone can sound tough and chew someone out of the internet, but I guess all of you guys do it over the internet don't have the guts to do it in person.

I was reading the thread that was closed.
It started legit and it was a good question to ask IMO.
As I was wondering some of the reasons myself.

So if the thread got way off course then may I ask why the mod did not make it go back on track for lack of better terms. There are some of you that are just as bad with that too.
Also you could remove the posts that are not according to topic at hand verses closing the thread.
To me that shows you allow things to go off course of what it was actually ment for and you close them.
So instead of closing them may I suggest to edit the junk out of them....if it continues then close it or just remove it all together.

As for Bruce....Yes he is opinonated and expresses them ( at times a bit too strongly ) but I also see as soon as he does----many of you get on him and hard.
So what msg are you sending out to visitors like that---not inviting but more discouraging and tends to shy ppl away.

Now that this is a free site which is nice but here is my take.....

All of you who do mod and there is a few who are not tend to group together and it appears clickish. Therefor you all ban together and stick by each other reguardless of the reason. There is not much of a non Bias outlook on things when it comes down to when Bruce is involved.
With that because Bruce is not one of you he is considerd and outsider.
So lot of you get on him and make things difficult and also indirectly get others to join in on the bash.
Bruce is an underdog here and I know there are some of you who would agree he does have some good things to say and bring to the table.
Now, it is no matter what the man says many of you damn him for anything now.

Yes I am friends with him. You guys just need to get past the childish bashing of Bruce. I listen to what he has to say and yes times it does not come out right but I look at the underlying of it or what he meant. I do not always agree with him and I say it and let it go. I find no real need to bash him.
I have not known him as long as some of you but geeze man, lot of you need to learn to let it go. If you do then he will. All you do is fuel the fire really.
In doing so you get what you get now with him.

Now I would suspect some of you to get all over me for what I just wrote.
It was mentioned he was removed from the Grid----that should have stayed there and not brought in here. There is more than one guilty person in that ordeal and he stepped up to it and I say kudos to him for that.

So lets grow up here---learn to let things go and learn to move past things faster and keep the topics on track.

Thanks.
There is my take on things

So let the typical bashing begin

nice rant Traxxas, but not to be a condescending, I think you are missing my points in my thread. I'm not bashing LH, I'm not bashing the forum here, I'm offering constructive criticism about this forum and want others to voice their opinion just like you just did.

as I mentioned before, and you might have over-read it, I'm one of LH biggest supporters. if I see it I'd call anyone out if they made a negative comment about LH that wasn't deserved. that's my point about having a forum to voice negativity. Other members here would "police" it as they do now.

Here's a hypothetical example:

I make a post in the chitownrc.com hypothetical forum called "Bitch". I post saying that John Doe goes week after week to LH and runs tank after tank but nevers marshals during practices, but yet I marshall all the time and it's pissing me off. But then there's replies to my post. I then find out from other members here that Bob Smith has one wooden leg and can't marshall but unbeknownst to me that 11 year old kid who's on the track for an hour at a time is his grandson who Bob has sent down to cover for him.

simple stupid story...but I think it makes my point.
