Buying Trends in here and General

Okay guys I have noticed that there are many of you who jump on the new stuff on the block.
In turn others jump in on the trend.
Then I see a short time later that the stuff is up for sale.
Then next thing things get flooded for sale like it was when it was new on the block.
This applies to Engines, Trucks and cars.
I can understand keeping up with some of this but to me it is pissing away lots of money unless you have deep pockets.

Like the Hellfire---it was hot to start off good reports and then---it wound down.
Now I see alot of SP2's for sale.

What is next?
The Kyoshso, and Mugen truggies being dumped to the new losi truggy?

Here is what I am looking at.
I was considering the Kyosho truggy and watched them run. I did read up on them and look at them closley.
Now I did the same for the Mugen truggy.
Now all of a sudden I see ppl dumping what they have for the Mugen.
Lots of praise and patts on the back for it.

I have planned on going with the Mugen soley because of watching them drive and the reading up on them.
The Kyosho did not pan out like the Mugen did. Replacment part costs was another I had in this consideration along with durability and ease of getting parts.

With what I know now in the RC stuff (which has changed from 12 years ago)
I would have done things differently and not dump what I did into my MST.

So over all guys....
WTF gives with this???
It is not the hardware that makes the driver----it is the driver that makes the hardware. I can stand by this with my own experiences.
I don't bust up my truggy like I use to do---WHY?? I learned to drive it and not with the hammer down all the time.
If you can't drive for Turds, then a more popular and more expensive car or truck is not going to make you drive any better.

I know it were myself and I had just started. It would make me feel like I use crap when at the time that was THE stuff to have. PPl start to think they have inferior goods when in fact they have pretty good stuff. Better than RTR stuff or start up equipment.

I dunno but I see that the more popular dudes set the trend on what to buy.
Especially if you are sponsored which I can understand. If you are not that thrilled with what you get sponsored---don't run it or advertise it.

I dunno but this is my observation here.

FOM is the principle behind golf club companies releasing new "and better" clubs every year. If you can't hit last years clubs, are this year's gonna be an improvement....UNLESS, the new clubs (or truck/buggy) is a departure in design and construction.

Is the Kyosho STR different from the Hellfire...hell yeah, and that's why it costs way more too!

Some budgets don't permit jumping into the deep end right away...hence RTR's. Then when they decide (pick a class) is right for them, they invest in a better machine.

Is the new GT2 a better truck than the old GT? Sure, but it doesn't mean the old truck is no good. It just means you have choices. More money, new truck. Less money, old truck.

There will always be people who have the resources to upgrade, needed or not. The same is true for lots of things, not just RC.

But also dumping a KYOSHO for a MUGEN----cost is about the same.
Both have good points and bad points..

Kinda what I did with my MST
I could not swing it all at first but a damn good deal to get started again.
Still I saw room for changes and inmprovements but I went the rout of HYBRID.
My MST is not really a Mayhem truggy anymore.
It is about %15 sportwerks and the rest is---list in sig and then some

Buggy conversions, then long arm conversions, extended chassis', etc... Everybody jumped into Hellfires be cause they looked promising, but just like many 1st release type of ventures it did not meet expectations. LSP's fell out like crazy when the CRT was relased...now CRT's are popping up all over since the MBX5T was released...IMO Mugen was just being patient and learning from the feedback from others although the temptation to "get it out" into the rapidly expanding market is usually hard to resist.

That is what I am talking about.
No one wants to sit and wait to see what is up first.
With Losi's new 8 and soon to follow is the truggy.
What I hear is" I am getting that new truggy\buggy when it comes out"

I say--I would wait and see what it is all about with the final release and not base it on the prototype. See one up close and in hand first. There will be changes made especially on how they can cut costs to delivery to the public.
I think it is not going to be just like the prototype---they will shave down on material somewhere.

man am i EVER the opposite...i did have the xb8 early on, in fact my 1st one was a prototype as the story goes... i tend to wait and let everyone else be the guieenea pigs and do all the home work for me. i only switched to K car because i thought it would fit my style better. while i am tempted to get a losi, after seeing it on the track, i bet it would feel like a xray to me. also im big into durability, i broke like 1or 2 items on the xb8 in maybe 7 gallons, nothing on the sp2 yet either, cept bladders lol... xray shocks took care of that Smile

i think its a silly waste of cash to me, what most of these guys are doing. they must have the income to do that, i sure dont. i couldnt switch like that unless i knew it was for a long haul. changing cars and or trucks, dont help you much in progressing. it can.... like when i went from a hyper 7 to a xb8... lap time went way down... for me... sp2 over xb8? well maybe not leaps and bounds, but the fact that i FEEL more confident in the handling make it worh the change in cars for me. i would consider going back to xray IF they came out with a new chassis with better weight placement.

I think the guys that you see switching for the FOM everytime one comes out see slower lap times right away and thats why they are put up for sale so soon and people think they suck. Once you get accustomed to the driving style of one car something new is a big jump to accomidate for. You are much MUCH better off getting a buggy and sticking with it for awhile and actually LEARNING the car, play with the setup keep it well maintained etc. the better you know ur buggy the better u will be able to drive it.

Personally ive gone as far as i can with my current truggy... Ive rocked that bitch for almost 2 years (December) and have tweaked upgraded and tuned it and i think im at the end of my rope.. Thats why i went Prospec...

I say if people have the money who cares what they do with it....

Rocco you do keep your stuff awhile. That's the way to go IMO. Mikey's right, learn how to maintain and race what you have and switch if it isn't working for you (after you give it time to work).

All I think about as far as Mugen goes is, look how many years the MBX5 buggy has been unchanged and it's still a competetor with anything out there. Scott Hughes kicks arse with it. I think Mugen does their homework so when they do come out with a whole new car it'll be competetive for years to come.
The MSR was a conversion and for it's time it was ok, but the LSP was killing it on the track. They knew that truggy didn't work. The new MBX5T has the ingredients to be a winner for a decent while, just like the buggy.

I am in the same boat as you.
I can't afford to switch but if there is something for me to gain I will consider it more.
As for me I need to stick out my MST. If I do come up with the funds to change over I would go with Mugen as of now.

See that is what tends to throw things off.
There are many followers around and cling as well as listen to what goes on.
Then they go out and buy only to find out the person they were following or a a few persons change what they had.
That person would have thought " I would get what they have and hope to learn from them"...that goes out the window for that person.

Now that I can understand. You got something hung in there with it as long as you did and then you were ready for a better ride.
This makes more sense to me then opening your wallet and giving it away.
Heck for the guys who do that---I could use my next car payment made for me---that would be nice since you are giving it away like that. Big Grin


Bottom line is I think whomever should stick it out and learn the ins and outs of that ride.
I am prepared for when I do get a new one it is getting reaquainted all over again. the up side to this is I would end up with a more quality ride and I have learned you really do not need all the hop ups out there. Some may be good to do but not balls out. So buying one with it done up for you would be far less costly.
You see when you get person like this and not just around here but all over the USA...it causes the cost to go up because of everyone wanting one.
If no one went nuts liek they do I amsure it would not cost as much.
It comes down to supply and demand and this causes demand to go up and then plummit.
Roc, You are right but who cares what they do with there money...
But with what I just noted it does affect us all in the end.
I know some of you can't see that but it is there.
Me, I have learned over previous hobbie not to get caught up with the trends and the FOM. It ends up costing me more in the end.

I got the TTR mainly because it was the cheapest thing I could find. I can not bad mouth it yet because I have yet to get it out on the track long enough to run(new motor). Could I see myself upgrading to something else down the road say like next year or so? Yea,I dont rule that out.

But it would be a smart idea for me to stay with this,get used to truggy racing and so on. Then look around for something else. I still have the bug to try a Revo truggy too. So I could do that sometime also.

That is why I also picked Mugen.
Like Ofna for example, leaves more to be desired...how many versions can you come out with and keep selling them.
Just do it right to begin with--research and development.
Do good with that instead of rushing and you will do better.

I have to disgree with that, I think that I made more progress with my TTR stuff when it was only me and johnny running them. For a few months it was gods gift to offroad then it turned into the worlds biggest piece of shit cuz nobody wanted to work with the car and try to make it better for them. When sonny had one he didnt really mess with the setup much at all outdoor and ended up getting rid of it. That left me and Johnny to have to fend for ourselves and make the car the best it could be. I think becasue of that i have an even better idea fo whats going on because i have had to start from scratch and make my own setup and not just use some one else's all the time. The TTR is the best buggy i have had hands down

You disagree but at the same time you back up what I am saying.
What you just explained it what I refer to.
Would you on your own just got that ride or did you get it because there were others. I would think you got it because there were others and in the end it was only two of you.
You ended up fending for yourself and had one other person to be in on it with you.
This is what I am talking about when you get a newbie or a one season person gets involved.
I felt alone myself once I got what I did.
You would wantg what others have to be up in lingo, set ups and what have you.

Kinda like how I feel about my MST.
At first I liked it, Then had troubles with it, made changes and upgrades.
Now I like what I get out of it. At the same time I had to take the time to know the truck and learn the feel for it much like you had to do and others have done.
Bruce and I pretty much are the only MST truggies guys where ever we go.
I learned a few things and started to mess around and now he tries what I have done. The tables are evening up between us.
I know Kevin has one but I have not seen him all that often outside of LHR.


Hey now this is what I like to see for discussions taking place.
Informative and progressive.
Some respectable comments with out all the BS bashing each other.
