Motor turns...Help me...
#1
Can someone please help me out here. I recently bought a touring car (electric) and i want to upgrade the motor. The esc can handle down to 15 turns so im good. I want to know whats the difference between a 15 turn motor and lets say a 17 turn motor? I remmeber 15 turns is faster....I think. Once I figure all this out I can buy the motor I want.

15 turn means the wire is wrapped 15 times around the commutator. Yep, the lower in turns you go, the faster the motor. (Generally speaking)

You could have a high quality handwound 17T that will spank a low quality 15T.

If you are just messing around and not racing then a speed gems 15T Titonite is a great motor. At $30 it's a good price too.

any other motor suggestions? Something durable, long brushlife, and pretty fast? Not a budget buster.

Proper gearing will help you on the battery life too. Get a starter set of pinions from Robinson Racing Gears (about $12). There are six sizes and they help you find the best choice for your setup. Then you can buy the right size "good" pinion without guessing.

good batts are also key. I've had good luck with reedy motors.

i do have a set of Super duty 2400mah emaxx packs that i use in my car. They run great and provide a lot of punch.
I'll look for the gears, too. Thanks for the info Davec-nitro-rs4

I'll look into reedy motors, too. AddictedtoNitro

Here is something else to think about. it's more money to start but if you go brushless it would last years with out do a thing to it. but like I said it's more money.

I have thought about brushless.....fast and good runtime. Any suggestions of a good, reliable, not too expensive brushless system?

Mabye for now, pick up that esc that can do brushed/brushless motors, and then further on down the road pick up a b-less motor? Not sure how much you're working with money wise.

a good brushed motor is the same price as a brushless motor. A good brushed ESC is the same price as a brushless ESC.

The only difference is no maintenance with BL, and it should last a lot longer
