But if you want to play with gear ratios you can, but it may not be needed. Also if your esc isn't hot, then your motor should be fine (if the esc was very hot as well then you might have a gear issue, the wrong motor or too much friction some where)

Chris I always thought you couldn't run a motor at full speed for a long time (I guess I read wrong somewhere).
