many times the top of the piston gets black from running rich check to see if it is burnt alum or just burnt fuel residue
Like Rich said any airleak will cause problems. Goto the hobby shop and pick up some carb seal or somethin liek rich said and seal Everything. Carb backplate, a little around the HSN and the carb bolt. none on the head. Tighten everyhting up, and clean it (clean motors are happy motors) Then go out and run it over. If you have to cgo back to factory settings and go from there. If you still cant get a tune/idle or anything check ur clutch setup.
