Looking into 1/8th Nitro
#1
Hello All,
I new to the site, but been in R/C for almost 15 years (mainly electric). I currently own a an AE Team TC4 and T4. I had a SportMaxx, but it was stolen, and I had a Revo but it was ran over by a dump truck(never let anyone drive your stuff especially girlfriends...j/k). I love my electric's, but I loved the power of my former nitros. I admit I'm a rookie when it comes to nitro, and I am looking for a good 1/8 buggy to get started. I have been eyeballing the Ofna Hyper 7, but also the Vilolator 9.5. I just wondering which one would be give me the best bang for the buck. Or if they are any other 1/8 buggies that would work.

Really depends on what you are looking to do with it. Are you going to race or just bash? Also depends how much you are willing to spend.

yeah waht he said.. Smile budget and what is its main purpose.

also to add.. Hyper 7 is a good one but its starting to show its age since the hyper 8 should be out sometime soon. Violators are good for a starter buggy. The Ofna Jammin buggy is one of the best low buck 1/8's now days but it all depends on budget.

Money wise, I'm kind of looking around 400, but keeping my eye open for a decent used rolleing chassis so I can add my own engine and such.

Well if that's the case you should be able to find some very nice rollers for that price. You can probably even find some very buggys with engines for around that.

I was just browsing the Ofna site, and I saw the Ravager, and it looks like an updated Violator, and Tower has it for 349. It for a little backyard bashing and then eventually to race a little. I think I found the one.

i had hyper 7's ..... do you self a favor and get a mayhem. they have good part support and IMO are easier to get it dialed in.... a mayhem will take you from beginner, all the way to expert, before you out drive the car.

towshen got a ravenger, was nice but the force .28 would not work in a race, good bash motor though! the rest of the buggy is basically a 9.5 violator(i think) so same durability and fun. i have the 9.5 pro and the only prob i have had with it is that i snapped a driveshaft, and the screws holding the steering knuckles backed themselves out. other than that no complaints.
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PAIN; THE INK AND THE JEWELRY ARE JUST SOUVENIERS

do yourself a favor and don't buy an ofna buggy unless it's the jammin. Go sportworks mayhem, or a gently used roller of the likes of, Mugen, Xray, Kanai, 777, etc...

For some reason, I never thought to look for a roller mugen, kanai, etc. I can save a heck of a lot of cash that way. I mean I've wanted and Inferno since I started in hobby 15 years ago. I going to do some seriuos searching for a roller. I was looking at Ofna because they are cheapest, but I will to spend a little bit more for a good buggy.

If your going Kyosho get teh Kanai series, stay away from the sport versions of the inferno. You can pick up a nice K2 or K3 roller for 250 or so in good shape.

Just found a Kyosho K2 on ebay for about 100, so far, it looks like it is in good shape, I placed a bid, I bought from this guy before (a TRX 2.5R for a friend's Tmaxx) and he is a good eBay guy. So hopefully I can win this thing. I just will have to add engine and servos. And if I do, i'm sure I'll ask what I should reasonalby put in the thing.

Well, I think I holding off on a 1/8 buggy for now, I got my bill for the winter semester for school, and I can but 2 buggies with what is due. So it's edumacation Big Grin first, then fun. But if I still find a decent roller I will see about pickingitup. I guess I'll stick my eclectrics for now. Which is ok for know.

Well, I was given my old Revo back yesterday. Long story short, my ex-girlfriend trashed my Revo, I rebulit it and sold to a freind's freind. He couldn't get to work and gave back to me, but he got mad it and destoryed the engine. So I didn't give him the money back. So I have a perfect Revo that is engine less. So I'm either just going to get a new TRX or look into a Siro for it. So I will be able to go nitro withour spending to much. So the buggy is on hold for now anyway.

Traxxas will exchange the dead engine for a new one for like $115.

Even if the engine was whacked with a hammer (by the other owner), I'll look into that. Thats better then dropping 200 for a new one.
