#26
Very well said Michy! I totally agree!!!!

to add to what mich said. Pick a ride that fits your wallet too... Buggies like the xray and sp2 are amazing bugs but there parts retail a little higher than some others on the market

It all depends on what you want and it all comes down to how well you drive. Look at what your buddy's are driving and what other people have at the track because if you brake and need a part somebody will have it

I think the Kyosha, Mugen, and XRay are all great buggies. But like someone else posted, a great driver is most likely going to win no mater which brand he/she drives. Thats why for me, being the 1/8 buggy boof that I am, price had alot to do with my selection and I chose a mayhem. I didnt want to cut my teeth with the most expensive 1/8th scale out there not knowing if id even like the class. For the money its a very durable buggy that has a great setup right out of the box. And now theres plenty of hop up parts for it if you need an upgrade or want that bling. Its the sleeper of the class... :wavey:

cars are all good.
had a few friends that had jammin, and the car kept letting them down.
mayhem pros are great. i get beat the time by them.

i will say i have yet to NOT finish a race because of my xb8.... motor yea... but not the car.

that in itself speaks volumes. worth the price to me right there.

Big Grin It is actually one of the deciding factors in me buying the revo. If it is your first nitro buggy I would aim at something along the lines of the jammin or PCR. You will get a great buggy at a decent price that will more than accomodate your needs...

I would say top three is

1.Kyosho
2.Thunder Tiger
3. Xray or Jammin

My honest opinion. The K-car is the best. I just started driving the car back in Sept and I love how evrything works together and complitments itself in terms of engineering and evolution. The Mugen is world champion for a reason and it is also an awesome car. I Started racing with one and the parts are there and easy to get same as the Kyosho. The Jammin is a great car also, but it is plagued by fast wearing parts and parts availablity is hard to come by and they are not the cheapest either. Kyosho parts have come down in price aswell. The TTR is not for everybody and needs a different chassis to make it easier to drive, but it is a durable buggy and parts are cheap and very afordable. The Mayham is a great starting car and very capable in the right hands, it does need some work to be up to snuff, but not much. The Newest version of the lastest GS buggy is supposed to be good. A new buggy that is on the verge of being released is called, Caster racing ZX-1. This buggy is going to be VERY affordable and competative, it resembles a Mugen X5 and there is a Pro version.

X-ray XB8

I agree with those 3 100% and will add if you want a budget racer the Jammin and a used 7.5 K3 would be up there too.

Joe, no opinion on the XB8 ? You got all of the major players listed but nothing about the XB8 ?

I'm fairly new to all this and I chose the K2/K3 because other people I know have run them and they can help me with setup. Parts are easily available, and you can find used hop-up parts at a cheap price.

I had a Sp1, just converted to a Sp2, everything I read the Sp2 is alot better, so Ihope to find out on the 4th.

I do like xrays manual, a good friend gave me one, and it has a nice set up section in the back.

Sorry forgot about the XB8. Its a high quality buggy, parts are expensive and hard to find at most hobbyshops. It is a full on racing machine in the same sense of a Kyosho and Mugen. Only buggy made in Europe too that is available here in the states in a popular way, not as rare as say a Crono or Bergonzoni.

joe, most stuff that you need to replace, is cheap. retail on the diffs and unis are scary, but with homer and mike, they are making it affordable....

i love that this car dont wear. i have 3 gal on this one, and it still looks and feels tight like when new. my hyper would have been sloppier than a dirty pirate hooker after 3 gal.
so far, the only thing i replaced on the car is some plastic bushings for the hinge pins. no breakage at all. that first elburn race i went to , i beat the hell out of my car, i cant believe it kept going after some of the terrible landings i had.

i always knew sonny would go back to kyosho. it suits him, all the cars are fast, hell wilson kicked butt with a hyper, i hated that car.

its nice not fixing the car after every heat. gut general maint and minor repairs to other things. again its worth it to me to pay the "higher" entry fee for the xb8, i didnt have ANY spares till last week....but now im ready to hit things lol.

Okay then. So much to think about and read. I was thinking on the Mayhem Pro but after what I have been experienceing with my Mayhem ST left me with little desire.

I think a poll would be in order for this topic.
One for the Buggies and another for the M-Trucks.

Also it would help if someone can put together a list of hobby shops in the areas and poll that one too for the Fav Hobby shop. Make it a Sticky one too so new comers such as myself can see it up on top. Let all three of these roll for a while.

Well if you are keeping your ST, does that share alot of parts with the mayhem buggy. If so you can keep your spare parts cost down since they will share alot of the same parts.

I think a poll would tell you what already said here

Okay after looking into this more this is what I found out there so far

Kyosho 1/8 Inferno MP 7.5 Sport 4WD NITRO BUGGY
Jammin X1-RTR
OFNA Hyper 7 PCR RTR Buggy
Hyper 7 PCR RTR Buggy
Sportwerks PRO RTR Buggie

Really money does play a part in this and at the same time I want durablity to where I don't have it breaking down on me.
I understand about the driving thing cuz that is really what it boils down to. How good you drive.
A lot of what I listed comes as RTR and are with in $100 of each other.

This is not an easy thing to decide on for me really.

out of the ones you listed, Mayhem is the ticket. Please take into consideration the wear associated with the different parts brands. Ofna seems to wear faster than others. Therfore you will be replacing alot more parts more often. That ends up costing more money and you end up spending as much as you would have buying a better buggy to begin with.

IMO spend the money at first and have a quality buggy from the start.
