I figured it was time to get the Savage ready to sun ourdoors this winter (the thing has sat idle for months)
I hear the best thing to do is Plastidip the servos. Anybody local sell plastidip? Do baloons do the same thing?
I know this topic has been covered many times- I just want to make sure I don't fry anything or have a runaway.

several guys have been prepping for wet weather recently. Try Squirrel, revo2k, freeridejunkie for starters.
balloons and dip are the right direction.
BTW, where have you been since 10/2004? Only 3 posts????

I used to be on Showmerc, but it seems most guys have moved to here. I have not even been able to think about RCs. I have been working on the house and been generally working like crazy. I have been on some 1:1 car forums though.

matt, welcome to the chitown board, yeah we've been getting prepared for winter for a while know. the best way that i've hear is to plastidip the servos(you can find the stuff at most hardware stores) and balloon the reciever, then tie a zip tie around the open part of the balloon, should work out pretty well.

How much of the servo do you plastidip, and what about the receiver box? Any pics of dipped items?

i don't i have never dipped them? this is just what i heard. the omly thing i have done is balloon a reciever and that works great! i think robs done it?

If you are going to plasti dip do it from the bottom up a decent bit past the seam. Then run a dab of grease around the base of the servo arm to prevent water from entering that way. I am taking it a step further. I am taking the servos apart and running a line of RTV gasket maker along it and then sealing it back up. I will then use the grease. I don't know if I will plasti dip also. Not sure. I will also be RTVing the actual boxes. It will keep them waterproof as well as what is inside. You should only do this if you have an externam charging jack... or else you will need to rip apart the gasket every time. I should be snow bashiung this weekend. After that just blow the truck off with an air compressor to make sure there is no snow/water left. May want to use some WD40 too... welcome and hope that helped.

go dan!!! whatever makes you happy! i just did some running in the snow with the buggy, i only waterproofed the reciever and everything still works fine! i'm busy all this weekend so maybe next weekend we can all get together? parking lot or woodridge?

what? do you just put a balloon around the bottom of the servo? that would be alot easier than plastidipping them.

i cut off the little peice at the end of the balloon (the thick rubber) and then i pulled the baloon apart, and had some one slip the servio in there, then after that i zip tied the end of the balloon really tight just with the wire sticking out, i also did this with my reciever pack and my reciever. i have pics if u want but right now i have to finish my homework if u want i can put pics up l8er

i get the point! that seems alot easier, that is what i will do for bashing. i always just ballon the receiver.

ive been launching my car into snow and the servo was completly covered in snow and i didnt waterproof it and its fine. do u really need to water proof it

I've bashed many a time with no protection, nothing happened. BUT I did have a traxxas 2055 go out until it dried once during a race.

Well I just got done RTVing my servos (just the steering ones. I am RTVing the box that the opti drive and reciever are in so that will all be sealed up. I am not doing the throttle servo box or reverse servo... there is too big of an opening in the box. I am just not going to worry about it... I also reversed a set of T-maxx tires for paddles out back. I will be running in the snoow this weekend.

lucky lol, if u have a body on u shouldnt really have to worry about the reverse or the throttle servo, the body should keep MOST of the snow out, lucky im waiting on a motor, i cant drive lol

Haha... :bustingup you're funny. If I am running 4 tires because I don't have skis yet the front tires dont do much but shoot snow up into the body. I have run before, taken the body off, and had a perfect mold...
