Once someone else's sh!t gets nicer than yours you gota find a way to justify and reason to make yourself feel superior which is quiet amusing.

That's a load of crap dude... All that I said was that my system was cheaper and that they sound or should sound (when you are done) about the same. Your box was better... that made me want to build a nicer box. It's called friendly competition. It's part of the reason you want to beat me... This is immature.
And I deleted the comments because they said that yours owned mine... which is a lie. They are close. The only thing you had me on was a little bit of the double kick. Lets let this go as well....

What do you mean by stress in the corners? I don't see anymore stress in them than in the corners of a round sub... when you move the sub up and down... it is all smooth... and it isn't tight or anything... I just don't see what you mean by that. The corners are ribbed so that could help it and the ones you have experience with may not be the same... I know there are some cheap square ones out. Please explain... I really want to know... For one I was considering selling this system and getting a solo x 12 inch and putting what it is rated for into it.... 5000 watts.

the solo X is an awesome... well designed sub. It doesn't stress any more than a round sub. I just am not a kicker fan. Go for it... they sound great...

the corners are stressed on all square, triangle subs, etc. . . . i'm sure they put extra protection into it but they are still stressed differently then round subs. i'm not bashing them i like kicker but i have just seen a lot of them start to tear the foam surond at the corners, same thing with 6 x 9 components.

the tears can start from a few things but mostly would start becuase of uneven pressure through-out the surround for an easy to visualize example.... the basket of a 6x9 could be bent slightly and then cause uneven strain on on side causing it to rip when the speaker is pushed to its limits such in such occasions having an un adjusted crossover and hitting a very low, sharp note
Over powering speakers will do the same thing

ok, thanks. I have not actually ever heard of having any problem with the surround on a kicker sub, but I guess it might be possible. Though I must say that after I have owned a kicker square, seen them in action compared to rounds, I am never going back to round. Though I must say that most of the higher end systems around here do have kicker subs... so I don't have a huge amount of experience with good round subs that arn't kicker.

I think all the Solobarics are wicked subs. Heck I still have an old round 8" solobaric that has outlasted a couple cars and amps! The early very first L7's did have problems with corners seperating I've not heard anyone have problems since though.

i haven't been to a d.b. drag in a while so they might be on of the greatest subs but, i still like rounds, esp. j.l. w7's.

yea, I think when I am building my system in my car I might even be considering getting some slighly smaller round subs for the slightly higher notes, as atleast the way I have my box built right now... it specializes in really low notes, it isn't for about 45 or so hertz and above. but I know for sure that is just my box, as I have seen and heard others in other boxes. I actually need to make a new box... this one is just a little bit too big for the power I have going into it. but seriously, check out the solobaric lineup some, you might be glad that you did. (but I am pretty sure that solobaric is approximatly equal to the square subs... if it is round... it isn't solobaric... it would either be comp or comp vr which are still awsome round subs by the way... I have a friend with 2 kicker comp vr's)

keep the flat faced box its better for the air flow if u add the angled one it wont sound as good as a flat faced one.....im my opinion dimond is the worst brand i know people who had 12's and 15's and they all sound like crap to me and everyone i know hates them...stick with JL thier one of the best or get cerwin vega thier real good subs and responsive and reliable...

JL's ehhhh... I've had W6's before, 2 10's, both of them had the voice coils seperate after 2 months and will never waste money on that overhyped junk again. I'm not even that hard on my subs. I don't listen to constant hard hitting music at high volumes. None of the other subs I've ever had have come apart like that.

Interesting, I never had problems with my JL 10W6's. I ran them for subs and Dynaudio for the rest of my system when I competed in IASCA. Your might want to check out Peerless or Vifa subs. I've had amazing luck with both. See: http://www.madisound.com

The face dowsn't have a LOT to do with the sound, other than the angle it projects it into the car with... It has more to do with the volume than anything as well as the size of ports and b affles leading to them in ported boxes. I don't konw what Diamonds you have heard or how they were set up but they are amazing subs. I would honestly take them over my JL's. Yes JL's are pretty nice and have the name, but that name is where a lot of the price comes from.
Now if they were Diamond's lowest level sub, in poor boxes, or over or under powered then I can understand why they sounded like crap. And they can't possible be the worst sub. You obviously havent heard the sony Xplod series or any lighning audio sub, heck or low end MTX for that matter. In a sense you do need to pay for quality. For a budget sub I think the best, hands down is the Infinity Kappa Perfect. It is not the loudest sub (but damn close for it's price) b ut it is incredibly crisp and precise. It will hit a double kick all day long for you and still handle some pretty good low bass.

I had an infinity perfect. that was the first good sub I had ever bought a long long time ago. I had that for a about a year then gave it to my sister to put in her first car. It Sounded really good the whole time it was working but my sister killed it when she stuffed the trunk full and stuff sat againt the cone which just off centered the voice coil and yeah.. she killed it. hehe.. I do still ahve the magnet from it though!
