Li Po??
#1
ok i decided that im gonna wait for a while to build my dream pc cause i dont have enough money yet. So i was thinking i could get Li Po's for my XXXT. My esc has a 6 cell limit so i think it cant take anything more then 7.4v(correct me if im wrong). so does anyone have any suggestions on which companies make good batteries and chargers??

Lol, a good charger alone will run you over a hundred. And a good charger is a must with Li-Po.

You are probably looking at about $250 lowest with batteries and charger.

lipo's are expensive with only $100 there is no way you will be able to do it.

You got to be careful with the cheaper li-po, a friend of mine bought a really cheap li-po charger and battery for his helicpoter and the charger shorted and caught fire, so be careful with the real cheap chargers. It's best to stick with a known brand.

i have one tip for you if you do get a li-po. get a voltmeter thingymajig. take readings often you dont want to get the voltage too low or youll ruin the pack. my friend learned this the hard way. he had a $100 3s pack that he had to buy twice cause he went too low and there is no warning it just goes and wont take a charge after that. my .02

Destroy_my_revo has a good point. Most all Brushless controllers have volatge cutoffs built into them so when the voltage gets below a set point the ESC shuts down keeping the LIPo from being destroyed. Most standard ESC's were not designed with LiPo's in mind and they do NOT have a cutoff so its very easy to discharge the battery too much and kill an $80+ battery. If you go LiPo I'd not skimp on anything. Get a good quality charger, batteries, and ESC that has a voltage cutoff so you don't kill the LiPo's.

As far as charging Li-Po, I would make/buy some metal box and put the charger along with battery in it, so if it would catch on fire nothing bad would happen. Sure, it's not like Li-Po will catch on fire everytime, but some safety is good. In the end, it comes to a good charger and good usage.

Thats the one thing that im worried about is if i start to run it to low. I have the newest Brushless esc from novak i dont know if it has a voltage cut off. i heard about a battery i think its made by scorpion or something and it has the built in cut off but its really really expensive. As for the metal box, when ever i charge my batteries i chuck them in a small tool box that i made at school. ill check and see my esc has a cut off
