Its his choice. Personally I think it will help him get higher positions at the races and be more consistant. Im not saying this because i have a revo and want revo's to dominate the field, just that I really do think he will be consistant top 5 in the A-Main all the time if he does get one. Tons of support from me and all the other revo guys for setup's and all that other fun stuff.

I have been telling him that for a year!!!!!!!!!

Go for it Rocco.

Why make him suffer with an inferior car ( I hesitate to even call the Revo a truck, it's built so light). He will break and change everything within the first month and end up wishing he had just stayed with the Savage. He would just end up dumping the Revo because it's too short, too weak, steers to slowly, needs a special bumpbox, etc, etc, etc.
He's already got his Savage beating up on Revo's anyway, so unless he wants to take it to the level of the absurd and build a bigblock truggy-in-Revo-clothing, why change just to play catch up? If people wanna challenge him in MT they should all build Savages and show up on Sunday. Why should he build a Revo? Stay with the LSP and call it a day. It's already a proven performer.

Have you seen how light he has made his savage to make it more of a racer then basher? Quote: He will break and change everything within the first month and end up wishing he had just stayed with the Savage. Have you actually seen him drive when he's in his A game? He rarely crashes in that state of mind. And no he isnt that bad of a driver. Changing stuff to his preference is gonna happen on any truck from any company. If he didnt change anything then i would be worried. Quote: He would just end up dumping the Revo because it's too short, too weak, steers to slowly, needs a special bumpbox, etc, etc, etc. He can get an extended chassis for around 100'ish, From my buddy i can probly get one for 80. Its not weak if you dont crash all the time. I doubt rocco will crash a lot once he see's how planted a setup revo can be. A good steering servo will fix the slow steering issue. Any 1/8th scale guy that has driven my revo has complained my steering is to fast and turns to much. Just need a good steering servo and rocco has a 94359z so he will have the fastest steering out there. Starter box he can get used for like 80 bucks used and he's set. From your post it sounds more negative then positive but im gonna take it in the way that your just telling rocco what he's gonna be into if he gets a revo. Besides i know who he might buy the revo from so its already built to race.
02-06-2006, 12:39 PM
we all know it cost a lot of money to go racing and even more to go fast...
I know Roc knows this just look at his savage. He will be a lot more constant with a Revo.

Ryan,
My post was directed at the question from a STOCK perspective. By light I meant less durable. It's far from the strongest thing I've seen, but by my own admission, I have not seen everything out there. I'm talking stock. If he's talking about buying a ready to race truck that's already been worked over, it's a different story, but I thought doing it yourself was big part of the hobby. Too weak refers to the stock engine/pipe compared to high end smallblocks/bigblocks that some people choose to run. I didn't mean to suggest he would crash-break, but stock parts break and bend from just running and getting run into. As for the rest (chassis, servo, box), everything on any truck can be made better for more money. If he's looking to buy a modded up Revo, he will have sidestepped the "hobby" version and moved straight to the "race" version. All good moves if you can afford it. I hope this helps you understand where I was coming from. Having purchased a stock Revo, I have a viewpoint that reflects my experience with the truck and my changes to make it better for my usage. I did intend my post to be a reference (not that Rocco needed me to tell him about it because he knows all of this by now), especially for a person (someone brand new to RC)who may read this and make a buying decision on a new Revo versus a new Savage, with the intention of racing with it.

the only thing not stock on mine is electronics, chassis, servo boxes and wing. Stock motor, stock gearing, stock suspension parts. I rarely break in stock form. I break more in upgraded form. My stock revo lasted like 4 months before i broke anything. That had like 3 gallons on it also. Stock revo is way strong and has a ton of motor thats more then enough for racing. Im gonna sure try and prove that this year. So far good results on my first run out with stock motor again. Il give you something to think about with my stock truck out there this year lol. My goal is try to and race a close to stock truck besides like servo's and a few chassis mods like wing and chassis.
02-06-2006, 01:16 PM
Speaking from experience as I've owned and raced both....
Savage = lot of money to be fast AND consistent. I had started to spend and spend and spend and I never even got into the A main with it last year. Parts breakage was brutal too. I broke ALOT when it came to racing. Revo = minimal work to be fast AND consistent. Hell most of the changes are for driver preference. I wing for protection, some suspension adjustments, good racing tires and you're good to go!. Here are the NON-stock parts in my truck. Engine, muffler, wing, shocks, electronics, chassis, rear-arms. Not bad if you ask me. Hell, most of the stuff (engine, pipe, electronics) gets changed out for better stuff anyway.
02-06-2006, 01:20 PM
Also, help from others is also huge! That's why (IMO) alot of local guys run LSPs. When you go to the track, you can get setup tips, aftermarket parts tips, and it's all in person. No looking at pics on the net stuff. You get real world results at your finger tips by guys who race on the same track!
That's the only reason for disliking the hellfire I bought. For now, I'm on my own for getting it track ready and competative.
02-06-2006, 01:20 PM
rocco if you want you can borrow all my revo stuff for a week i dont care. Il give you the truck, spare parts bin, and my book that has both of steve slaydens right ups in it plus a lot of other stuff that tells you about the setups and such. I trust ya rocco.

Wow.... how did i not see this till now?!?!?!??!!?!
1st, Thanks G for starting a retarted poll on how i show spend my money.... Bastage :p: 2nd, Mich... Thankyou very much for your generousity, offering to let me drive your truck for a week was an extremley gracious thing!!!!!!! ALSO!!! Id like to thank you for not bashing my current truck (the Savage) , and sayin some very nice things about it.... 3rd, Dave your first post sounded very sarcastic, i think that s why mich felt the need to defend me ( Thanks again lil bud!) My current truck is a very formitable club racing truck. Theres nothing better than smacking trucks breed to race with a basher, recently i switched to 1/8 buggy shocks and just have not found a setup that is anywhere near good... When i went to the pro series last year middle of the pack was the best i could do on mulitple occations... IF i buy richys revo this by no means will be the last time you see the savage tearin it up... To much time and coin has gone into morphing that rig into the sweet ride it is today...

You already know what im gonna say. Are you smoking crack? Dont waste your money on another MT, WTF you want to be serious about racing but your going to race the best class you can finish in? Come On Rocco, thats cherry pickin on all the new guys to the RC racing scene., Get a 1/8 already and get serious with this stuff, It will make you drive the car and not get so lucky when you think you finished well in MT or UMT. Lets face it dude, UMT fools you into thinking your the shit and 1/8 buggy brings you back to reality as it is less forgiving than UMT and makes you tune your set-up and drive with your head and not your ass., Not trying to be rude or anything, I got nothing but love for everybody, But why in the Heck would you want to step down, when you know you need to step it up. G-man and Bonie, (Rich and bruce also) have takin that route in the 1/8 buggy action and have respectable finishes, join your teammates in the action. I will give you all the help you need in tuning your stuff, I got ya covered dude and you know this....man!

as long as you got good competition it doesnt matter what you race. Its that head to head battle for first that racings about. If you got no competition then its time for another class.
