dont do it below 50 degree's outside otherwise once it turns hot outside tuning is going to be difficult. The the hotter outside the better.

Minimum of 40-45* outside. Smooth, level surface (paved) is best so less stress is placed on the motor during break-in. Definately watch the Traxxas video, at a minimum.

It it's less than 50 outside, you could always wrap some aluminum foil around the engine head. That's how I broke in both my new motors. I was getting readings around 230ish when breaking in my 2.5r with the foil on it. After breaking it it, I took the foil off and the temps dropped dramatically really fast. Settled around 170 or so.

The key to breaking in a motor is making sure the temps never go below 200*.

i had the foil over my 2.5R and it was super hot, like it hit 290 on the first tank with in the first 5 min, i took the foil off and it was about 220 and i just broke it in with out the foil on there and the temp stayed fine, and the motor has been fine, but it has like a 1/4 gallon on it.

How cold was it outside when you foiled it? It was 35* for me when I did it. It was not fun by any means, but I had a race to attend the next day...

im not sure what the temp was, was but it was cold, below freezing i know that, but if worst comes to worse i can just use that motor for the winter if something is screwed up.

2 tanks for heat cycle, 5 for anything else. 1 gallon to fully break in a motor. Never under any circumstances tho leave your engine at wot for more then 3 seconds untill you get at least 15 tanks on it. Its still a fresh motor and parts are breakin in and you dont want to take to many chances and push it to far. Better to be safe then sorry.

most motors need atleast 1-2 gallons before they are fully broken in, u will notice one point in the motors early life when all of a sudden it starts to run cooler and with more power, thats when its fully broken in

do i have to get a temp gage, or could i use one that's like for cooking and rig it to be next to the motor?

get a digital one, a lot more accurate, keep the motor under 270 optimal is between 220 and 250 for the 2.5R and 2.5 in my expierience.

optimal temp for the 2.5 from my experience is 270-300F, it will also depend what temp it is outside.

ok, so all i have to do is drive it around and keep the motor above 220*, accelerate slowly, let the motor cool between runs, and not go full throttle?
thanks

alright, we went to start it to break it in and it won't start

we push the button on the starter, it spins and then just shuts off
so we check to see if the engine is flooded, it's not and then we wait a while and try to start it again
we put it on there, it spins and then just shuts off again

we've done this probably 7 or 8 times
what could the probmlem be?
thanks

keep pressing the button on and off in spirts. When you check to see if it's flooded do you take the glow plug out, then turn the truck upside down and hit it with the ezstart? that will clear the engine of fuel.

Are you sure fuel is making it to the carb?
