Tex Wrote:I've never had an Ipod or any mp3 players. I barely bought my first cd early last year because I couldn't find new cassette tapes anymore.
Anyone want to buy a tape deck Sony walkman?? it's from 1989 and is in decent shape still.

Throw in a Betamax vcr and a turntable for 78's and I might be listening.Confusedmash:

ok if ur thinking about getting an ipod i say nay on the nano. if u spend 50 more bucks i think u can get a 30 gig video player. and if u drop it then the screen gets really f-ed up. and its even small falls it happened to my friends nano. but if ur thinking about a video player to i would go for the creative vision m. the screen is better and it has a longer battery life when playing videos for the ipod video. and the vision m takes a lot of diffrent formats of movies, such as mpegs and avi files. and the ipod video only takes mpeg4's so if u want to put movies onto it then u gotta convert them all. which can be a hassle(i know cause i gotta do it for my psp) but the nice thing about ipod's is itunes if ur kinda clueless about computers then it takes care of everything for u.

just for ur fyi i dont have either i have an ipod photo. i just like to read reviews on cnet lol

but the nano is my own opinion.

i'd get hte video
the nano's are too small...my friend HAD one, had it sitting in his backpack (which he just hugn in his locker all day) and then he went to get it out and it was broken right in half, the screen all screwed up and it didn't have a chance at surviving....so much for that

but i've actually stepped on my 30 gig ( long story) and it was fine

This chick was loading her back pack today at school and her nano fell out of her coatr pocket and then somone else stepped on it (our lockers are right by the door) and it was fine, but the other kid didnt step on the screen.

I have a SanDisk MP3. Got it last year. Not the best because I didn't know if I was going to stick with it or not.

I would want to get an Ipod video. I seen a video on there and the quality was good.

it's probably better picture than a plasma tv, but it's soooo small Sad

Look at EVERY digital camera on the market.. they all have 2" screens that have quality just as good as the video I pod. If I want to watch a video I'll watch it on my Laptop or even better connect my Laptop to my television and watch videos on there.

I just don't see the point of dropping cash on a video ipod unless videos are your life. If your in the car then listen to the radio, talk about what your passing, etc... normal car things. If your in school, learn and study. etc...etc...etc...
Everything has it's place and a iPod nano doesn't fit in to good anywhere IMO.

I do like the music mp3 players for jogging, walking, whatever when your bored. Video units don't make sense to me. Can you play video games on them?

The video function is just a benefit of having the color display. They used to be Photo iPod's. The games that come with it are basic, but I think you can download more from iTunes site. Video on it is small, so it's really just a novelty, but you would look cool watching a movie on the plane. The iPod is still just a hard drive. What you use it for is up to you.

Funny, I thought I was one of the Cossy powered Vega's on my way to work this morning, any relation? I swear that thing had almost as much salt on it as my Jeep does right now (why you would drive a car that rare in the winter here I don't know.....)

I got one of the 30 Gig video ones for Christmas and use it almost daily!

Well, I bit the bullet and picked up a 30gig video ipod. This thing is pretty damn sweet! I'm not really a fan of itunes, but my buddy tells me once I'm used to it, I'll love it. As a music player (the main reason I bought it) this thing rocks! The brick I was using (creative nomad 30g) was nice, to big and bulky. I listen to music at work on average of 6 hours per day. This new ipod is small enough to easily fit in my pocket, a huge improvement over the belt clip I was using for the nomad. Scrolls through music much more nicely too. I'm looking to into getting one of those speaker/docking stations to put on my desk too. During lunch I'll have the ability to get some futurama or family guy episodes to watch while I eat Smile.

Six, any links to how to upgrade the HD in the Nomads? The 40Gb storage is plenty, I'm just interested in seeing how much work would go into it to swap the drive.

I had a link on my old Laptop.. I'll find it again.

Found them..
This is how to upgrade the original Zen..
http://www.blurbdesigns.com/ZenUpgrade/
This lists all the differences when upgrading the Zen and Zen xtra plus it has lots more good info.
http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?nam...bd03d7b253

The thing is there is supposidly a 10,000 song limit on them but I've heard conflicting information on that. Possibly the latest firmware has differences. anyways with many songs bing high bitrate MP3's the added space would be nice Plus you cna store any kind of files you want on there. its a nice backup drive.

Hey Tune, if you get a cover for it, look for the heavy duty Speck one I picked up
[Image: HPIM1830.jpg]
I got it at the Aurora/Naperville (Fox Valley) Comp USA for about $35 or so and it's about 1/8" thick black rubber and looks a little like an industrial truck tire. It's even got a hard clear plastic cover for the screen too. I did leave the static cling plastic cover over the front of mine though just for added protection.
