Hacking, Bashing and bad sportsman like conduct
#1
It seems to me that hacking, bashing and just plain 'ol poor sportsman like conduct is growning at an out of control rate in our hobby....

I know that the occasional bump and crash is unavoidable and should completely expected in the hobby of r/c racing, but blatent sh*ty driving seems to become the norm for most ( no offense, but if you are taking this general statement personal then you might need to think about your driving style)

Too often in all classes i see too many guys using competitors as bumpers in corners, jumping pipes, ramming people till they get out of the way, crashing into a tangle of r/c's at full speed.... ect ect ect.... You guys know what i mean.

Unfortunaley one of my favorite classes ( Standard MT) Is basically the worst offerneder when it comes to ruff driving. I understand that there are alot of new guys in this class but how are they going to learn how to act on the track if experinced guys act like a**holes and basically treat others high dollar toys like sh*t.

I dont think the track officals can do anymore than what they have expect black flag people... I think that the only way for things to get better is by us racers policing ourselves, by this i mean we all need to clean up our acts and start racing clean races.

Sorry i know this rambles on and on but I was thinking about this all day but when it came time to type it out i couldnt pull it all together so if anyone has any thoughts on this please chime in...

I haven't been to the track racing in about a month or two, so I don't know exactly what your talking about.

Who is doing to the hacking? New guys? Regulars? Maybe if it is new people, someone needs to tell them that they are doing something wrong and tell them what to do.

If it is regulars, then yes, they just have bad sportsmanship.

If you are cutting the tubes, your only hurting yourself. You might turn quicker lap times by cheating, but your not getting any better.

+1 maybe there should be a 'noob' class and then an 'advanced' class but then again this doesnt deal with the experienced drivers who are not giving a $#!+ idk i was also thinking about this but didnt know how to put it.

I completely agree Rocco. It's one thing when a newb gets in the way, but when the "Fast" guys are using their vehicle as a ram to get past people, racing no longer is fun. I'll admit, sometimes I get in the way (Due to lack of experience), but if it is in a bad way, I usually try to find the person I hit, and appologise.

I know some people may criticise this thread, saying "Accidents happen, deal with it", but when we're on the stand, it's easy to see if the problem was an inexperienced driver, or an intentional Hack.

Maybe there should be a way to try to calm this, but that would be too hard to enforce. A Marshall pulling the car for a lap could work, but then who decides if it was an accident, or a hack????

ive noticed people cutting tubes but sometimes they cant avoid it because they were marshalled in the wrong spot. i wouldnt blame that on the marshalls either. im quite a noob to racing but have been to lhr alot. im not the best marshall out there but im trying to improve my skills by marshalling more during practice days.

Good thinking Rocco, when I was there marshelling on Thursday night when ever I went to flip a truck or buggy over they would rev the motor causing the wheels to spin, whenver they did this I just simply left the truck or buggy there and moved on, when they came out on the track I was getting dirty looks and I even saw one guy mouth a few words to me. And there were a few people there marshelling by the tripple and there would be someone getting a truck or buggy and someone would go over the tripple like they werent even there, I saw a few people get hit. Someone needs to put their foot down IMO.

well I think that if you see a accident up ahead you should slow down, so you dont get tangled up or smash into somebody.

Hey, leave my name out of it... lol J/K

Let's not bring this to a NAME GAME.

I have seen (and been hacked) by a nameless person. When I was told it was an accident (By someone who didn't see the move), I explained in better detail a few of the moves I personally saw.... They then agreed with me.

Point taken, but this thread isn't about people reving their engines, It is about people intentionally crashing people to slow them down.

Yeah, but did you read all of the post? I said stuff like people are just being wreckless and not caring about the marshells out there, I think the revving and stuff would go along with the bad sportsman stuff, I'm just stating what I saw at the track.

I don't see why people revv their engines. They do it to get a marshalls attention, but then they keep doing it. Most racers have long enough fuel lines to stat running for enough time to get marshalled. When they are gasing it, it is just wasting up the fuel they have in the extra line and they have a better chance of dieing by doing that.

Instead of people hacking, they should just try to pass the person "trying" not to touch them. If they do hack the person once, they should try to stay away from the person they hacked. And if it was an accident, try to find the guy and apoligize like you said.

Guys revving their motors while your trying to marshall them : Leave it revving until they stop.

Marshalling : Pay attention to your spot and not the rest of the race or your buddy driving around the track. This will also help with the revving of the motors.

Guy trying to pass you : move the F*%K over already.........This is probally one of the worst displays of sportsman ship in the hobby.

You trying to pass someone : Give them some time, if that dont work, Give'um a little tap........Theres no other way to do this besides if you know the person, let them know on the drivers stand to let you by.

I see what you mean, but, Guys will sit there and rev the motors if you are running to the buggy/truck, I have even had a few people rev the motor when it is in my hands, one time I hat to pick one up by the wheels, some gave it probally half to 3/4 throttle and it shot out of my hand, landed on the ground and broke an arm, but it was MY fault somehow.

dont ever pick a car up by the wheels...

Rocco, this is nothing against you or SMT, but u cant expect much more than that in that class of racing. Yes it happens in buggy as well, but the guys DO police themselves quite a bit more. You will see guys stop or let someone pass them if they had already hacked that person. Yea there is blocking and intentional bumping that goes on because sometimes guys get an attitude or what not on the stand while they are driving. No im not perfect I have done it too as have all of us. But when u have huge trucks driving around a tight track, many of which are not "race" vehicles the bashing and stuff is not gonna stop. To be Honest, there are not many guys in that class that are VERY experienced in racing. Most of the guys justthink that more throttle equals faster lap time. I have seen it in practice. Dont get me wrong, I am NOT in any way shape or form trying to bash anyone or what class they run, but I gotta call it like I see it and that is what is basically goin on out there.

OK, I gotta say...if I'm doing my job racing my line and the guy behind me is faster, he should be the one who passes me. I'm not required to get out of his way. After all, we are both racing for the same thing, the best position on the track. Now if he can't pick a clean pass and gets impatient, sure he can ram me out of the way and maybe wreck us both. If I can give him room to pass, without "pulling off to the side" to let him by, I would. But during the course of a race, I can't tell if every car is faster than me. If he is, he will find a way around me, just like I have to find my way around anyone I am trying to pass. And if someone blocks a pass, is that hacking? In all other forms of racing, as long as you are sticking to your line, you are entitled to it. Now if you move suddenly to block or hit another car, that's a hack.

Gosh Rocco, I dont know what to say. If 2 people close to the same speed fighting for the same line come together in a corner, is "the hack" the guy that drives away?
One day your a hack the next day you got hacked.

Dave, in all other forms of racing you are entitled you line, yes. BUT, it is common courtesy and polite to move for the faster guys on the race track.

Now, I'm not talking those you're fighting for position against. I'm talk about the guys fast enough to be lapping you. In UMT, when guy fast guys come up behind me, I take the outside and slow down at tad on the next turn and let them by. It's the polite thing to do. I also believe in carma. I would like that same thing to happen to me if I'm running good and I come up to lappers.

Most racers should know who the fast guys are in their class. I know I do. One of the ways to get faster is to watch the fast guys get around the track. Learn from them. Watch their line. That's what I do. You'll learn the fast line around the track, speed you can or should carry in the corners, etc.

An added benefit of this, is that you'll recogonize their cars on the track if you're racing against them. So you'll know for sure who's lapping you and who's trying to take your position.
