Ohh LOL!!!

I dont expect an r/c race to look like a nascar race no bumpin everybody in a single file line... I just felt lately that things have gotten alittle crazy

good topic rocco. this is one of the reasons i haven't come out much since lhr opened. i admit i'm not the best driver, but if i see someone coming up fast behind me, i slow down and move over, but the problem was some people were running right over me, or smashing me into the wall. i figure i will just wait for outdoor season, where the track is bigger, and there are no walls to get pinned against.

The "Let the fast guy by" theory is great, in THEORY.... The problem is with the people who don't want to let the fast guy by. Example being one of the times I got hacked... I watched a driver in previous races, go down the straight perfectly, EVERY time. When I was passing him, suddenly his truck swings over, sending me flying. Then in later races, he had no problem driving straight down the back stretch.... This same driver, on another occasion, HAD the inside line, I watched him push wide, right into another trucks bumper, pushing him to the wall. On later laps, he had no trouble holding the inside line again.... THESE are the kind of Hacks we can do without.... The occasional bump, or a misjudged corner is going to happen, but when it is intentional, and repetative, there should be a way to punish it.

Hacking not only can cause frustration from other drivers, slower lap times, and more broken parts, but it also takes the FUN out of the hobby.

I know that I let the faster truck (pretty much everybody) by when I was their with my MT. I am sure that I will be doing more of getting out of people's way in 1/8 buggy because it is like starting all over.

I am excited to get this thing running, but it is helping me not being able to run because I am reading about all the stuff I can tune. I just got done printing one of the sticky posts by ORC.

IMHO, not letting a faster guy by is just plain stupid. I don't care if it's lapped traffic or the guy your fighting positions for. If it is in fact someone your fighting positions for, why not let him by ? Your fighting positions to begin with.......meaning your gonna be faster in some sections anyways. So......does that mean that he shouldnt do the same for you? Common courtesy goes a long way instead of being a prick on the stand.

Being a new guy to the sport, this was a really good read for me. I will be participating for the first time at LH tomorrow night for the elect open practice.

Reading this has given me some in-sight on what to expect, and how to act on the track, thanks

Rich I have to disagree with you on that one lol, unless u are getting lapped i dont think u should let anyone by. In qualifying yes always let the faster guy by, as I have let sonny by every weekend of racing lol. but in the mains u are fighting for position, you should be able to run fast enough with a guy if u are running similar lap times to the point where u can run with him and not hack him or have to pass him. Just wait for one guy to make a mistake or take u oppurtunity when it comes to you.

IMHO, in this sport of R/C racing, there is no "line".
Yes some are good enough to have a line they "try" to follow, but lets face it, no matter how good you are, your not going to follow the same line on the track every single lap. Ive watched some of the best, like Sonny, and even he doesnt take the same exact line every lap, its just not going to happen.
The track is just too tight for how fast the vehicles move, not to mention its off road with other racers in the way.
With that being said, how can anyone predict someone elses line in order to make a clean pass? You cant.
You just have to follow and wait for your opening, usually when the person if front of you makes a mistake.
There are times when people dont like to move over though, even after youve followed them long enough....this is when it gets ugly most of the time, because now its time to cut in and force the pass all while trying not to hack.
This happens in all forms of racing, not just r/c. You race your line no matter what, but if someone is on your butt, by all means move over...if not, they will be forced to pass, even if it means bumping you.

#1 reason why i havent raced all winter is because of being hacked. I know I have hacked before but never intentional. It got to the point were every race I was hacked out and broke something. I get your point rocco and this kind of stuff needs to settle down.

I try not to hack. If I give a tap I will apologize afterwards or wait during the actual race. Now that my motor idles well I don't even have to worry about revving it when upside down, and I always get out of the way when a noticably faster car is trying to get around me...

Good post...IDK there's alot into this topic. I know I've accidentaly hacked once or twice during the past 2 times I've been at the track. I was trying to get around this huge, slow, basher (yeah it was setup for huge jumps, big joes etc) and I barely caught his wheel and he flew....IDK but I do notice while I'm marshalling that there is alot of bump and grind going on. I don't see that much of a problem with the on throttle people when I'm marshalling, I just wait a second till they realize what I want and then they lock them up. I can realize when the tires are moving cause a bad idle speed, and then I just wait then too. Some give you a funny look, but yeah whatever.

There (as you know) is a very long (and continuing) thread about this in the LHR forum. I completely agree that if people don't like inexperienced drivers out there then there should be seperate races.

I'm not good enough to get out of someone's way, if I tried that I'd end up wrecking both of us. If someone is faster and better than me they should be able to get around me. That's the reason I barely practice anymore because people get pissed off that non-experienced drivers are 'getting in the way'. I'll just wait till the qualifiers to get practice in. I don't know what more I can say. I move around the track at my own pace (slow) and do my best not to wreck. I think I'm doing a pretty good job of it and each time I feel I get a little better. Having said that, if at some time in the future I get to where I'm winning a-mains I think I'll remember what an uphill climb it was to get there and have compassion on the guys that are new to the sport.

I do a lot of marshalling, usually till I'm so tired I have to go sit down and this is one place where the unsportsmanlike conduct is horrible. People revving their engines (one guy cut my finger wide open last Sunday when I tried to turn his engine off because his pipe fell off, next time I'll let him blow his own engine up). I started another thread in the LHR forum asking Bernie not to make the jumps so high because people don't care about the poor marshall out there trying to grab someone's truck, they fly over anyway and they could care less if they hit someone in the head. I've had people run into my ankles several times.

I'll keep on marshalling just because I think its the right thing to do but on those big jumps I'm going to start letting peoples truck sit there until everyone has gone by or they figure a better system out. I have a family to think about and getting sent to the hospital over this hobby is not what I'm after. I got a good idea from a guy at the train station, he said they should give you guys poles to reach out there and bump the truck over (or grab it), sounds like an excellent idea, especially if it had a hook on the end.

+1 rcdad, But the jumps are never gonna be smaller. The larger jumps atract more people. If you don't feel comfortable marshalling in a spot then move! Find a place where they will not be flying in the air! I have taken a savage full on in the chest, didn't feel that great. Just one of the things you have to deal with when trucks and buggies are cookin through the air.

As for rookie classes, I think that would be a good idea. Being a rookie myself I know I have no chance against people like sonny and a few others unless they break so why race them? I would rather race people more my skill level. But i think thats what the z-mains are for?

The hacking and bashing prob won't stop because most of the newb's aren't on the boards. They are just the average joe's that aren't into this hobby as much as we are. I have hacked before(not at liesure mind you) and I have been hacked. It is impossible to predict what the person you are trying to pass will do. I know that if someone is coming up on me, but hasn't caught up to me yet I will puss a little harder to stay ahead. If they catch up then I will move over for them. But if when I move to the outside to let them pass they might also try to go outside to pass me. A wreck would occur. Any other hacking or bashing is not acceptable but it's a part of racing and will never go away. There will always be the guys that think they are the fastest no matter what car they drive how it's setup or how it runs(Freeridejunkie J/P) We as full time hobbyist have to look for these people and try to help them out and explain the rules to them.

If there's a guy fast enough out there to be lapping everyone, he will most likely recognize the fact you are moving over for him will stay on the inside.

When racing UMT, I have never been hit by a guy lapping me when I go to the outside to let him by. I'll see them coming up and simply take a turn real wide and slow down a bit, they make a quick pass on the inside and I continue on my way, usually trying to chase them for a bit and try to learn from them.

From experience, it's must safer and faster and easier for the slower guy to move over than it is to make the fast guy go around. It's so easy to block in rc racing it's stupid. What's the point of holding up a fast guy? Block is one of the worst displays of sportsmanship if you ask me. I ALWAYS move over when getting lapped.

It's not that I'm trying to block anyone, it's just that staying in my line and not overstearing is hard enough. If I begin moving over I'm flirting with disaster because I'll oversteer and then both of us will be in a wreck.

RcDad were u there this sunday marshalling the big tripple and taking pics the whole itme in the morning for practice. If so thanks, I appreciate someone being out there to pic cars up in practice. Oh and I always slowed down by that triple to avoid hitting the marshalls during practice or the quals

That was me, I went out 2 or 3 times until I would get too tired. I'm going to try to get pics somewhere so that they may come out clearer and people can use them as action shots. The ones off the tripple were pretty cloudy and its hard to tell who's car it is. Maybe at the beginning of the strait in the back?

ya the best spot would be a low speed turn or something like that the tripple is prolly too tough unless u get pics of them downsiding it
