pondering going smallblock

Well my Revo is under 8lbs 15oz with a half tank of gas and a body on RTR. With my P5 in there the truck is supposed to weigh in at 9lbs 8oz or MORE for Pro Series Races. As you can see I either need to switch to small block or add weight to my chassis.

First off, does anyone have any good ideas as far as adding a little over a 1/2lb of weight to a truck? I am already buying pythons which should add about 1/4lb but I will still need some other options.

I have 2oz of "stick on" weights but there is no good place to stick them.

I really do NOT want to go small block because I love the power and the reliability of the big P5 but I may not have any other choice if I can't figure out how to add weight to the truck.

well as long as u dont add any unsprung weight then u will be alright, put the weights as close to the center of gravity as possilbe. The tires are unsprng weight, but there is nothing u can do about that...

Yeah, pythons are heavy!!!!! BUT... Many say that the heavier tire has made there revo " Less twitchy" and easier to control

So you add a faster steering servo just to counter it by adding heavy tires??
Rounder tread profile are supposed to settle a twitchy truck (say that 3 times fast!). Flatter tread is supposed to add traction, but can add to twitchiness (real word?).

And who runs a lot of steering expo setting on their radios to calm down the truck around center?

I run it on my throttle but not my steering... I want that to be as fast as possible

Not sure how to add weight...but hey wait get the http://www.teknorc.com box and add the optional 250cc tank! That should get you some weight!!!

On another note, how much, at least, should a small block weight be at for RCP series?

With the big block you can also run a 150 ml tank. That will add some useful weight.

If you read the rules you would see a small block can go up to 150 and a big block up to 175.

You cant use the 250cc tank for pro series. Maximum size for bb is 175 and sb is 150 so that mount wont do anything to benefit his situation.

I'd say just add the weight...this way you can experiment with placement for better balance.

Gabe, when I was running the pythons on my truck, it was a hair over 9.5lbs. You save almost 1 full lb when going with dish wheels and bowties or crimes.

I say add the weight.

Thanks, I guess I'll try the pythons, weigh it after a heat and see where she sits. Then I still have 2oz of the weights I can add to the bottom of the chassis.

I weighed the front and rear of my truck separately, then I weighed it as a whole.
Back = 4lbs 15oz
Front = 4lbs

as a whole, 8lbs 15oz

Gabe you only run one steering servo correct? But the Revo comes with two from TRX. Put a junk servo in the open hole for added weight?

I would see where you are after changing wheels and tires. If you are close enought you can then experiment with placing weight in different locations... you could also look into aluminum rocker arms or something like that. It would actually make a possible breaking point stronger and add the little bit of weight that you may need, but without adding any more rotational mass or anything than necessary. (And you can always go the junk servo route... and I have pieces of a titanium skid. LoL J/P)

steel is the heaviest, followed by Ti, then AL

I guess my next step is mounting the Pythons and seeing where I sit on the scale.

Gabe, today I held the Imex wheel and Hurricane wheels side by side. The Imex is noticebly heavier than the Hurricane. I will get the electronic mail scale from work and compare them. But I think the unsprung weight issue is more important to you....

I still gotta wonder if these Imex's are fragile compared to the Hurricane? Dunno...I will be able to tell you EXACTLY the diff between Hurr+Python vs Velo+CF's, if that's what you need to compute.
