School an 1/8th scale noob
#1
Ok...I'm not a total 1/8th scale noob, but I've never owned any Kyosho buggies. I'm looking into the Kanai as a platform for a Truggy project and all the reading and searching is giving me a headache.

Kanai 1,2,3...SP1...SP2...7.5...777???

I was trying to educate myself but am still slightly confused on what exactly the differences are between K1, K2, K3 (which I belive are all MP7.5?)
Also a MP777 is a completely different ride correct?? If someone wouldn't mind giving a quick breakdown of these for whats what and what may or may not interchange?

I know it's alot to ask..but I would appreciate any info you can provide.
Thanks, ORC

I know you like to create and make alot of stuff. LOL

BUt I did the Kanai truggy deal, it was really never race worthy.

Now for the education part.

Stay away fromt he 7.5 series, these are the sport models. The Kanai editions are all upgrades of the 7.5 series. The Kanai 2 was the best of them in my opinion, the k3 is just a lighter k2.

You are right the 777 is a different buggy, on some parts, the steering is the major difference, the sp1 had the engine slightly moved forward, the sp2 went back to the more rear mounted engine.

The kanai and 777 diffs are all interchangeable. The 777 series have different steering and shocks than the kanai's plus the arms are different.

I don't think I've cartwheeled it once yet... The most I'll do once in a while is traction roll. It's that darn triple that's daring me to hit it every time around the track lol.

I can't say for sure that there are wheel base differneces, I think the K3 had the engine more towards the rear end a mm or 2 from the k2.

The K2 was the best of the Kanai series IMHO.

The problem with making one of these a truggy is gearing and the short arms with the MT wheels. With the stock arms its liek racing a square not to stable in the rough. The Native arms help alot with this problem. Like I said when I went down this road it became a money pit, and I was never happy with it. John (dent guy) and I even went as far as having a new carbon fiber radio tray made so we could accomodate a larger spur gear, wich solved the gearing issue, but still the suspension geometry is not made to handle mt wheels.

(REVO2K) will insert here how he runs mt tires and has lightning gearing in his with no probs. LOL

Yeah that might work for a while but the gearing ratio is still to low at the clutch and thats why premature clutch failure is not uncommon.

Thanks for the info...
I went to Kyoshos website and found out that the wheelbases are all equal and I know what you mean about the spur gear situation. This isn't going to be a race project so I'm not too concerned about the geometry issues, but I may convert it to a long arm eventually, but that's later on.
