CHICAGO -- Frances Petrizzi was looking forward to a night out with four generations of her family.
But dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy in Skokie ended tragically when the 86-year-old Chicago woman tumbled down the stairs and died.
The accident seven weeks ago led her family to file a negligence lawsuit Wednesday against the restaurant. Petrizzi had been waiting outside with her 94-year-old sister while other relatives were waiting for a table inside.
Attorney Francis Patrick Murphy said Petrizzi's family was sitting on a bench in a crowded area where the dine-in and take-out areas meet -- and also where stairs go down to a lower-level restroom. Petrizzi fell down those 12 steps, broke her neck and died the same day, Murphy said.
Murphy said the stairs are now blocked by a velvet rope and sometimes by a staffer. Petrizzi's sons, Donald and Richard, are seeking unspecified damages in the suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.
A restaurant manager referred a call to corporate officials, who couldn't be reached.

I,ve been there. The stairs were tile and somewhat steep, and lead to the bathrooms. Accident waiting to happen. Release the lawyers!

Since the whole family was there why wasn't someone watching the 80-90 year olds???? I would have had that lady arm in arm if she was my grandma and she would have never fell down the steps.
If I was the restaurant I would sue the family for bad press due to the neglegence to take care of gramma. Old people are like kids at that age, someone has to babysit them.

that reminds me of the seinfeld when kramer spilled the hot coffee on himself. I saw another one where some guy was trying to steal a hub cap of this guys car and the owner of the car started to pull away not knowing what was going on and ran the guys hand over and got sued for it lol

the shit people are sueing each other for is just ridiculous... A few years back my dad's company was snow plowing the eastgate parking lot in lombard... Well they always store the snow in one part of the lot and fence it off... well this lady pulled into the area where they dump all the snow ignoring the signs of do not enter the caution tape etc.. she gets out ofthe car slips and falls then trys to sue my dad for her breaking her arm on the ice inside the baracde....
Thank god we have a good lawyer and got she ended up gettin herself in trouble

I heard a story about a guy who broke into a house under construction, it was in the middle of the night (dark / no lights)...fell down the stair opening (stairs were not installed yet) broke his legs...ended up suing the builder for not having guardrails protecting the opening!!! Did everyone forget that he was trying to rob the house!?

Did you hear about the guy who was robbing a house and he got trapped in the garage untill the family returned from vaction 2 weeks later to find him??? They pressed charges against him and he turned around and sued them for false impresement (forgot the real word) and for starving him because there was no food in the garage... He won.... WHAT THE F**K is wrong with jurys now a days???
