top cat
#1
hello
i am new to the site. i am trying to rebuild my schumacher top cat that i have had since it first came out. like every excited kid i didn't really know what i was getting intoIdea over fifteen years ago and would finally like to get the car working again.
The car hasn't been run in over 15 years and I was wondering if I should replace the electronics and where i may be able to get parts for such an old car
any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

well parts, if u have the old manual, it should have the parts #, so then take it to ur local hobbyshop and ask them to order that part, it should work. and as for electronics, well depends.
GOD BLESS YOU JOEConfusedalute:

I doubt you'll find parts for a 15 y.o. truck.

Do you have pics? I would replace the electronics, motor, bearings, go over the diffs, replace the oil, and rebuild the shocks.

I would just keep it for nostagia... But you wont find parts... And rebuilding shock ect... will only add to the parts you would have to find (o-rings,spacers )

If you really wanna build it... there are sites dedicated to restoration projects like the one you have on your hands... They may be more helpful with this topic...

I like to restore old r/c's... Like my TTR turds... Im constantly rebuilding them due to there inferior parts and shody craftsmanship.

I had a Top Cat back in the day....I actually went into the basement to make sure it still wasn't sitting down there.

It was a great idea with its inboard shocks and Cat like break away front end....but it was just never competitive. I don't even think I ever raced it....the Losi/associated stuff was just too competitive.

I will take a look in the too box, if there is any misc parts for the Top Cat you are welcome to them.

I remember the top cat....I think. It was a 4wd 1/10th buggy, made to compete against the Yokomo super dogfighter. hands down, the top two buggies at their time.

Do you guys remeber the Dominator's ( flat track oval car )? They were made in my town were i live at R&R Hobby, Roy Weiss was the owner, but Jim Deiter was his head R&D guy, now he is Erni Provetti's ( Trinity ) top R&D guy. I met all the big dogs back in the day their, Jay Halsey, Cliff Lett, Rick Howart. I use to pwn the schumachers with my Mid-engine AYK Radiant and my Kyosho Optima. Man i miss R&R Hobby...............I wish someone would open a good shop down here in Quincy,( even a Hobby Town ) we need it, the local Harley Davidson dealer is like our LHS, its pretty bad, and they really only carry Traxxas, Team Associated, and it seems like they are trying to push HpI as well =/

GL mike on bringing that cat back to life

Well here are some pictures as to how the project is going. I had read in another post that Oops! Cleaner will take off paint does anybody know if it will take off the adhesive from masking tape(don't ask). Put in a motor that i had laying around the house also an old speed control that had never been used. I installed a new radio/reciever futaba magnum 2pl. I just need to change the shock oil and put in a steering servo and this 15 year project should be ready to take out for a spin...it will most likely snow when i am finally read to take it out

Yeah it'll take masking tape residue off, all sticker residue for that matter. (I'm the one that suggested Oops.)
