Well, started on the track today. There is more grass in this spot than I thought. I mowed it down to the ground. Right now all I've got is an oval until I get that machine to dig the grass up. I put a jump in and made this video while beating my truck around this track.

I checked on a sod cutter at home depot, it's $58 a day to rent.

Fixed the vid link. One day should be enough I imagine.

yeah those sod cutters cut almost as fast as a lawn mower. One day should be fine. you can even do 4 hours for $42 but I think it would be safer going with $58 for a full day.

RCDAD, I was wondering if you ever tried the OS carb on the TRX2.5 motor? I was thinking of trying the same thing as I have had caburetor issues with mine. Thanks for any info. By the way, I like your track.

I asked a lot of people about the OS carb and I heard there was really no difference in performance. Not sure if it tunes any better.

yeah I'm sure it tunes better, but your right, no performance increase. I had good and bad 2.5 carbs, they are all different. Thats one bad thing about those motors IMO, bad consistancy. One motor is a different animal comparred to the next.

The bane of mass production in Taiwan. Sometimes you get great stuff, sometimes not so great.

At the pro series over the weekend i was told that a nova carb will give this engine a night and day difference for tuning and performance. Im gonna try and find out what carb it is and then buy a 2.5 and stick that carb on it and then tell you guys what carb it is lol.

I am not looking for more performance. I am happy with the power output but I am having issues with consistency or lack of. I like the build of the motor itself but I do not like the plastic carburetor. I would stick with this motor if I could find a different carb for it, otherwise I am starting over. I have this motor in a 4 lb gas sprint car and it is very competitive with anything so far unless I dont start or finish the race due to a tuning issue. Thanks guys. BTW, I am sorry to have hi-jacked your track thread RCDAD.

ok well i just got the link. http://www.crispycrittershobbyshop.com/s...t=0&page=8. The review i heard on it was it gives you slightly more power but it also gives you about 1000x more reliability then the stock engine. It will tune like an os engine altho its still got traxxas parts on the inside. I cant wait to get this and another 2.5. If you order it harper let us know how well it does for you.

Mich, you may have answered this in another thread (since we're off on a tangent anyway) but what motor are you running in your Revo? os18?

the os .18tm revo engine. I am however gonna be picking up a new 2.5r with that carb i linked above and use the 2.5 for everything but pro series events.

NOMB but can I ask why you want to swap like that? Is it to save run time wear on the OS? Or is it more track specific powerband related?

well there both awesome engines. The os i want to use more in a pro series race because the os have more low end so in a head to head race i would benefit with the os more then the 2.5. Im just preserving the os and am gonna use a 2.5r. I love the 2.5r engine. I probly will even use it at the pro series depending on how well that carb does. To me either engine is a great engine to use for racing or bashing. Im just really trying to keep a racing engine and a bashing engine so i can do both, bash and race without worries.

I see and understand. I can agree that bashing with an expensive OS engine will be fun but costly. Killing and replacing Traxxas engines (with their exchange program) will be way less costly. And if the 2.5r works fine for less than highest level racing, why not use one?

Thanks for the insights.

How did the Chicago guys do in Indiana?

Guys thanks for the info you posted. I just may order that Nova carburetor but just for the heck of it I tried something. I had a rotary carb that I new worked well on the motor it was on. It had a 10mm mounting dia (pretty common) and had a venturi about the same size as the trx carb (6mm). I was thinking today of making an adapter to bond to the 10mm carb and it hit me to cut the neck off the bad trx carb and drill it out to 10mm and bond the 10mm carb to it and so thats what I did. Turns out the trx carb has a metal sleave in the neck that is 13mm outside dia and you guessed it, 10mm inside dia. So I cut it off the trx carb right at the base and bonded the 10mm rotary carb into the sleave, did a little grinding and polishing to make a nice taper and bam.......the motor runs great! Very stable and consistent and seems to have the same power with a smoother transition. I will race it this saturday and really give it a test and let you know how it turns out. Thanks guys.

Boy, I need to expand my track. It's pretty hard for the Mayhem to handle that little thing Big Grin

I'm running an OS carb on my 2.5r but I don't think the pinching of the p/s is working well. If I could get a 2.5r p/s for $30 I'd have my motor modder trick it out and then see what's up. I want to keep this setup for small loose tracks that my other motors just overpower.
