14mm hex on 8mm 1/8 buggy axles

I think I've seen it done for converting buggys to truggys. How do you racer folk do it?

My problem is I have prolines 40 series velocity wheels with a 14mm hex. I recently purchased new CVD driveshafts for my clod that have the standard 8mm buggy style shaft hub outputs (ofna 1/8 scale style).


Ofna hubs bolt to the axles perfectly the only problem is that are only available in a 17mm hex (from what I can see). I don't want to have to buy new wheels and tires as I like the way they perform together. Its money I could use to benifit the truck in other ways and its a pain narrowing down the wheels.

Is there a 14mm hub available that looks similar to these?


Or am I screwed into getting new wheels?

Check out the Losi LST2 14mm adapters. The LST2 uses a buggy size axle. The 14mm adapters slide over the axle, the pin slides through the hex and axle and is held in place by a long setscrew that extends out of the axle so a locknut is used to mount the tire.

Quick question though, how is the pin held in them adaptors?

That really long setscrew- It's so long it holds in the pin and sticks out far enough that the nut can fit on it. (at least that's what it looks like)

the wheel extenders on a GS sut fit an 8mm axle and are 14mm hexes but they use the ny-lock nut like a tmaxx... Might work well for you

On a Buggy axle, the pin that holds the 17mm hex, gets held in place by a setscrew that goes into the center of the axle. On buggies, that setscrew is small. The losi kit comes with a long setscrew that extends out of the axle, far enough to use a regular locknut to hold the wheel on. Exactly like Ponch said.

The GS ones that Rocco linked work the same way, but will also widen your wheelbase. Not to mention, are discontinued and may be harder to find. The Losi ones keep the normal wheelbase.

Went to the LHS and ordered up the LST one's. I hope they will work for my application. Ofna also has a set similar to the GS adaptors. Increasing my track width was something I didn't want to do. Them comp courses can be tight at times. Plus it would effect my steering torque.

The mammoth has adapters like a savage cup for the rear and alternate cvd axle replacements for the front. I just used a spare set of savage axle cups and bought the alternate cvd axle ends for the front.

Anyone want a barely used set of bowties on 17mm large rims?
