What are you using the charger for? Do you bash and race electric vehicles?

Isn't the purple on only 5amp? The Millenium can go to 6.5amps.
Dynamite just came out with a 10amp power supply that retails for about 50 bucks.
The Radio Shack 15amp supply is about 80 bucks. I've used one for a few years.

Both about 25 bucks retail and both 5amps:

http://www.buyreliant.com/psupplies/ps9.htm
I've know a few people who use both and they are just fine.
if you will never charge sub-c cells for racing both would suffice

Stick packs mainly -
I have some brand new 3600 Nimh that I would use for my electric buggy and /or starter box. I really want a charger that functions as a discharger/conditioner to keep these packs in good shape. They are cheaper packs but are the best ones I have, and I want to keep them operating well.
I also have 1500/1600 Nicd stick packs that are for rotostart and bumpbox use.
I would also use it for RX packs.

Well being that you seem to need the "vise-grips" of chargers....do-it-all kind of thing you might think about also down the road wanting to try out LiPo and Li-ion batteries too.....
I'd spend the extra money over the Pirannha and get this:
http://www.duratrax.com/caraccys/dtxp4170.html
Duratrax Ice.
As an example of being stuck with equipment that might not crossover later in your RC hobby's career....me the boys have four chargers: two Pitbulls, one Millenium Pro, one Integy. Well, Coop just got a Axe helicopter. It has nine cell NIMH packs. None of our racing chargers willcharge anything over 8 cells. So we can't use our existing chargers for this pack. I was going to buy and ICE a while back and never got around to it.

I think for what dave is looking to do that is more than enough, I bought the triton or whatever which is just like the ICE and if it wasnt for the lipos that i use in my radio I wouldnt even use it

The Ice is nice, but prolly overkill for where I am, and where I'm going in RC.
I think the Intellipeak Pulse 4100 will do the job I need, it just doesn't have the bells and whistles of the digital displays, which are great to have if a serious electric racer taking loving care of $100 packs, but that's not me.
Thanks for the input/advice/guidance. Chargers are a complicated purchase and add up quickly.

I thought I read somehwere above that you wanted to also have discharge or cycling abilities? That's why I mentioned the Ice. I think you get into the hundred buck range, paying retail, to have discharging capabilities 10amps and over. The integy I have discharges at 20amps. I use that alot. I bought mine used from one of the Kasper brothers. soemthing like 60-70 bucks.

Yeah , that 4100 discharges at fixed rate to a fixed cutoff voltage. Again, racers need more options. I just want "conditioning" discharge ability.

I pulled the specs up:
Built-in AC power
0.5A-6.5A max. fast charge
3A max. charge rate for NiMHs
1A discharging
FWIW, 3amp for 1/10th scale racing is way slow for a race day, 1amp discharge is also useless for 1/10th scale battery packs too.
Just so you know.

Kenji, you're saying the discharge rate is too slow...that's for a racer who is seeking to charge-run-discharge-recharge packs between races? correct?
Because I guess racing would be seldom if ever for me, even though I could in theory, seeign as I have an electric buggy, but those chances are slim. If I did race it, the battery thing would prolly be the last of my problems!

Dave a discharge rate of 1a is too low for subC batts. You want to discharge them at or about the rate they discharge when in use (in a starter box or electric car). If I'm not mistaken I think both of those draw like 20-30 amps during use.
To be honest if you use your bump box and electric car every week (even at home) then I would just play/charge/play/charge and not worry about cycling.
