I remember seeing that street drifting like that was how the whole drifting thing got started....it is nuts to see them doing it on public roads with regular traffic around.
Put yourself in that driver's seat: OK, I'm going to make my drift pass now. Ok, pass the bus...floor it, crank in some opposite lock, watch the mirror for the guy coming down the on-ramp, ok, missed him....crank it around, gotta watch out for the nasty sand dune on the left, shit!!! I'm heading for the bystanders....Ahkmed..pull your head back in the car! You stupid camelhump! Wahta are you doing hanging out that back window????? No wonder I can't get a good drift going to the left! Screw it....I'm gonna just ram the bobcat and then slam into the storage shed. Hello, OnStar? Yeah, I just totaled my BMW 750...can you have replacement send over? Great, thanks. Allah ackbar!

That is what happens when you have more money than brains. Having a car capable of it doesn't make you good at it. (I know.... I have a few friends who have wrecked pretty good.) I play around drifting SLOWLY compared to that in empty parking lots or open streets when it's snowy or wet. That is it. I do not want to do it dry for the speed that you need to be carrying, and I won't do it where I could hurt anyone. If I am going to act like an idiot I am putting myself in danger and no one else.

how do you drift a front wheel drive car?!

Is that really drifting though?
Drifting is intentional oversteer.. E-brake isnt the same IMO

rocco79 Wrote:how do you drift a front wheel drive car?! Casketman Wrote:E-brake it Actually no. Every now and then I will use the e-brake to start the drift, but then almost never after that. I think the actual term for the way I do it is called a "Scandinavian Flick" or something. Basically you turn the opposite way that you are turning to get the weight of the vehicle to shift, then you snap the wheel the other way. It is just like if you are in a drift and swap the side you are drifting to, you feel the big weight shift. Same affect. So if I am going to drift to the left.... I go straight, turn to the right (fairly hard) to get the weight to shift, and then I snap the wheel to the left. The rear end will kick out and then it's just like a RWD car from there, but you have to hit the gas at different times. You can do it when it's dry, but it takes a lot more speed. That is why I play in the rain and snow. |
