Why is everyone flaming this guy? I personally would like to see some one start a mill by hand! I would think a worn out motor would be harder to start since it would need to be turned over more.

damn guys! Shame on me, I started it today, the allen key wooped back and cut the shit out of the web of flesh between the thumb and fore finger.

cool to start a motor like this, but not recommended.

For anybody interested in the menace. I will bring it to you, or meet or my house and we can use the bg roto starter I have for my LST2.

I believe the guy. You see the problem here is that a group of kids that race at the track think just cause they run over priced nitro engines that they know everything about the hobby. Well son... Let us do some combustion engine history shall we?? I don't know if they taught you this in history class but did you ever hear of a model-t? You know the first production car ever made by a man named Henry Ford? Do you think that thing came with a push button starter? You had to crack that thing with an allen like device to get it started. And that worked back in the day when combustion engines where quite possibly at their worst. I could see if you took an allen and brought it to TDC (top dead center for those that don't know) and poped it real fast it would probably start. That and the motor was probably rich, which means that it had some left over fuel to help it pop. You see your "race" motors are designed in such a way that they are naturally harder to start because they don't like to idle. They where built to preform, not idle. So the allen trick probably wouldn't work with your motor...ever. But when you guys are building 400-500hp engines for the street then you can come and talk to me about what should or shouldn't work with an engine. And the only person I know on here that even has a deep knowledge of engine/ nitro principle of operation would be thridgenGTA. And don't tell me yeah well I ported an (nitro) engine...who cares, everyone knows how to use a dremel. That doesn't make you an expert on air/fuel combustion fundamentals. But I'm sure theres people on here that do know alot about engines, but I'm not talking about you, I'm talking to the guys on this post that like to bash on someone without really knowing. Rolleyes are you done braggin to us how much you know now?

first of all the disbelief of starting with an allen key is because he said "it is so good you can start it with an allen key" or some BS like that. Your not going to be able to turn an engine with decent compression over by hand and have it start. Oh and for ur comment about my "race" engines they idle forever I never had any issues with that.

Well I'm glad to hear you guys have good motors... you know they were built to run so I'm not that shocked here. And your motor idles all day? Well good for you! And for the other guy I don't have to prove anything to you, were talking about a "toy" here. I'm talking about air/fuel/compression, which this rascal obviously had to be able to start on such a short pull. But since your such a "toy" expert, I think Toy 'R' Us is hiring. They could use a guy like you. A self proclaimed expert and all. What are you ASE for nitro engines. HAHA

I had the xtr3E and could start it with a T-handle allen as well...took a min but when ur drill is dead u will do whatever it takes to start it up...

and 400-500 h/p street engines are not shit these days buddy...for a decently "fast" street car you need to be running in the 10's AT LEAST or else keep ur junk in the garage because we will rape your big bad 500 h.p street car on the streets all day long

I stayed out of this thread cause there is too much bull shit, but since I was mentioned then I'm going to go ahead and add to it.

A nitro engine will start on 1 cycle if it is in good shape, primed, and possibly preheated with a known good glow plug. Most of my newer engines will fire over on the first pull. If you've got fuel, a good plug, and turn the engine so it just begins to build compression then crank it fast it will fire. This also includes a good tune. By newer engines, I'm referring to engines that are within the first 4 gallons of fuel and not beat to hell and back. An engine that has never seen fuel will probably not fire over right away because the pinch will be tight enough to stop the engine at TDC unless it gets a good high idle going. Break in settings also will prevent it from starting on a single compression cycle.

If my 528xr is primed it'll fire on the first stroke. The bump box lasts forever cause the box barely runs for more than 1 second.

With a T handle allen the human forearm is capable of generating 100x the torque a nitro engine can. The problem is that a human can't twist his arm fast enough to make power, but there is plenty of torque on hand.

As for "fast street cars" I can't remember the last time I saw more than 2 or 3 10 second street cars on the street. Sure, they are out there. I know of a few people who have cars that produce enough power to run 10's. But as for the ratio, more people are in the 14's 13's and 12's than you will find running 10's. In todays world head flow has gotten some major advancements so we no longer need to run those big ass cams to make the power because the heads have such great airflow at low lift. And their exhaust flow is excellent too. So you can run a smaller cam, but make the same power.

Race cams do not like to idle because they don't generate enough vacuum at idle to draw the mixture into the combustion chamber. Its a combination of high overlap, larger intake runners as well as a few other things. All of the things that give an advantage in creating HP cause poor performance at low engine speeds. Including a rough idle, so you turn the idle up.

You don't seriously think a Top Fuel dragster can idle at 500rpm all day long do you?
