We cannot afford to keep our 15 mpg Expedition, so we are looking to get rid of it.
What is out there that can fit 3 adults and two children and gets better mileage? Thanks in advance for the suggestions. Parents probably want 2000 and up (year wise)

Trail Blazer or Explorer. Not going to be a whole lot better on gas, but you will need a 3rd row seat for all the people. I'm not sure if the Blazer has a 3rd row option, pretty sure it does. Then again you could always get a mini-van mash: .

Are the 2 children in car seats? Is so, you're only real option is a mini-van. More of those should easily get 20+ mpg.
If the children only need seat belts, than get a car. Not many cars it seems these days get less than 25+mpg (sports cars excluded).

Like them or not, mini-vans are the most room for the buck. Not always very luxurious (although they can be), but functional as heck!

That's just what it says online. never really paid attention to real life mpg.

Sounds like your best bet is a minivan. You won't sacrifice the room, and gas mileage will be tons better.

They don't want a minivan, just overheard a conversation they had about it.

Look into a wagon of some sort... (VW? Subaru?) or even a new scion. They are not the greatest looking cars but my buddy gets 37-42 mpg in his scion Xb on a regular basis......

3 in the back I think. Look at the scion cars too (don't remember which). They are cheap to the point you could probably get one new and like I said, the fuel mileage is amazing.

You were right, 3 in the rear...And mom doesn't outright object to it so that's cool.

Hmmm...My parents seem to be ok with the idea of a scion, honda civic, saturn ion 3, or mazda 6....So what's your guys' opinions on those for now?

Scion. Best gas mileage out of all of them and reliable. I do not like civics. Saturns are cheap crap IMO, and the Mazda 6 is a nice car but will not get near the mileage of the scion. My $.02
