spectrum reciever (crazy stuff goin on)
#1
alright i have a spectrum system...tried putting a known good reciever in my X5 truggy, when it is installed i get glitching like crazy on my steering. tried other servo's and still glitches....even tried another known good reciever from another car still glitches..... now when i put the recievers and servo's in any of my other cars no glitches at all....what could this be.... i ended up resorting to using my old school crystal fm transmitter and reciever and it works fine in the X5....some crazy stuff goin on here

Any metal on metal noise? That's usually the biggest culprit of radio glitching. Kinda weird though, that the fm works and the spektrum doesn't. Spektrum is less prone to noise. The car could be generating some weird frequency that doesn't affect the fm but messes up the spektrum.

Strange problem for sure!

Carefully check ALL wires on any servo's or Rx's you are using for any breaks in the insulation. Also, if there is a spot that looks like it might touch metal use a zip tie, double sided tape or anything to keep it from touching anything metal.

If its only steering then its likely something to do with the servo's wires.

Generally the only reason for a spektrum rx to glitch is because of low voltage at the receiver end. There is a point where it cannot resolve the signal and the system does start to act like its glitching. Its not really a glitch, its a low voltage problem as Spektrum Rx's don't have a low voltage cut-off built into the system. Even a TRS won't save you from a low voltage condition with a spektrum Rx.

I run li-po for my rec. as well at the $40.00 ko-propo push button on/off switch which cuts power and wont power servos at a certian volt..

the key word in his post was that he used a different reciever in the car and same problems SO IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECIEVER, be it spektrum or anyone

he has isolated teh problem and ruled out the reciever becasue he plugs a differnt recievr in there and then plugs the same reciver into another car and no problem

like GTA stated check for a short or wire to metal contact

if the antenna wire touches something metal (say a shock tower) can that cause it to lose range and kinda rev the engine on its own?? because last night i had a probelm where if i flipped and revved the engine it would be a big delay and then sometimes would rev on its own. only had the problem 2 times though. could it be maybe touching the shock tower and casuing it to slightly glitch untill its flipped back on its wheels?

yeah this problem is really gettin to me. the thing is the same rx and servo that is giving me problems in my truggy i put in any of my other cars and it works fine so it can't be the equipment. maybe the way it is all mounted in the truggy like i am stretching a wire differently or in a different direction. electronics can really be a pain sometimes.

Its very possible that the solder points inside the servo or rx are loose/weak. If thats the case then you would see glitching if there was tension on the wires.

well the save servo that glitches with the spektrum works fine with the fm transmitter i have in there now so who knows. i'm sure i'll figure it out sooner or later. but thanks for all the idea's guys.

I personally have not seen it but I heard some of the earlier spektrum rx's had a problem with the wire for the antenna not being glued and getting pulled loose from the board, the later ones have the wire soldered and then glued. Maybe in the car in question the wire is getting pulled tighter?

Good luck,
