What's better? Savage - Revo - Losi LST

It's incredibly hard to figure out what is the best truck?

it all depends on what you want to do. If your just gonna be bashing savage, if your gonna be racing then revo. If your gonna be racing and got a ton of money to spend on upgrades then lst. if your gonna be doing a mix of both then probly revo.

I'm mainly looking at bashing. I ask because I hear people rave about all three trucks.

mich's post is really good. The savage I'm selling is an excellent basher but couldn't quite cut the mustard as a racer, hence I now have a revo.

you will probly be the happiest with a savage for bashing. Mr tunes savage is a heck of a basher. Once he figured out how to open the throttle all the way that truck came alive :pow:

I'd have to agree with Mich as well... I have had a Savage and a LST, but have never had a Revo.

The Revo is a great race truck, and seems pretty durable to handle some serious bashing.

The LST is a good race truck, but needs a decent amount of upgrades to be reliable. (The stock arms are brittle, When you upgrade them, the spindles/carriers, turnbuckles give out, Stock Diffs NEED to be upgraded to Aluminum, Brake shoes need to be upgraded, Stock tires are TOO big for racing, Steering needs some work, etc...) Don't get me wrong, the LST is a FUN truck, and I miss mine, but it was just not worthy when bashing. One great thing about the LST, is it is VERY easy to work on, which is a good thing, because untill it gets the necessary upgrades, it will see a lot of repairs.

The Savage is a GREAT Basher, but takes a LOT of upgrading to make it Raceworthy.

I have to agree, mine was hit by a car and kept on running. Had to replace the wheels and tires, but it kept running. Its the little things that nickle and dime you to death though.

If you know how to drive get a Revo. Then get out and do both-bash and race. That's the purpose of the stock Revo. It's a great handling basher in stock form and a competent racer too.

What fun is it bashing a truck like a Savage or LST that has such a bad suspension system that you have to pray it'll land on it's wheels? Except in the hands of the very best drivers, I usually see these trucks cartwheeling. They do great cartwheels though.

If you need a lot of exercise get a Savage, that way you can run over to flip it on its wheels all the time. Gauranteed to help you lose 5 lbs. of fat per gallon of fuel!!!! LOL!! Cheaper than Jenny Craig.....

he said he is just gonna be bashing so a savage will do him good. He can flip and crash as much as he wants with very little to go wrong. You dont need a good handling truck to bash, just change tires if its not handling good enough for bashing.

First off, not everyone is into serious racing. Second, the LST suspension is not as bad as you say. The truck does handle quite well, is quite easy to keep on the wheels. Sure, you can't take a turn at full speed, but let's face it, these are supposed to be Monster trucks... If it wasn't for the durability of the LST, I would still have it. I just don't have the bottomless pockets that I wish I had. The LST has been actually holding it's own on the bigger tracks, where the drivers can take advantage of the speed. Revo's are dominating small tracks because of their Non-Monster Truck suspension.

I know it is always a BAD idea to come into a forum, and ask "What is better"... It's almost guaranteed to start a Flame war. Just because something works for one person, doesn't mean it will work for everyone. I am in no way putting down the Revo, it is a great truck. But to say "Anything but _______ is not worth owning" is completely wrong. If someone is going to do mostly bashing, with an occasional race, and not care about where they finish, The Savage IS the best choice. If that person wants a truck that they will be able to race competitively with, the Revo and LST are both good choices. The deciding factor, is Track size, and willingness to upgrade parts. Out of the box, Revo, but if you don't mind doing some serious upgrades and will be racing on a big track, I would get a LST.

Look at the vast majority of the bashing videos, the Savages launch nice and then cartwheel upon landing. They are tough but you pay for it in performance.

As to the LSTs being competitive on bigger tracks, where? I raced last weekend against Savages, LSTs, and truggies on a very fast track with a 200 ft straight http://www.northernhobbies.com and only a truggy could beat the Revos-stock or highly modified like mine. Revos aren't just dominating the small tracks, they're dominating ALL tracks. Will a better non-truggy racer come along soon. Probably, but it won't be an LST.

But the point being, RCDad wants a durable truck to BASH with. He's not going to be racing. The Savage is the more durable basher.

In the "Bashing videos" you mention, for the most part, listen to the engine, and the people filming and driving the trucks. They aren't controlling the throttle/brake to keep the truck level. In most of them, they are going WOT over the jump, never letting off the throttle, which will make any truck land wrong. The filmer and driver's are usually laughing. Why???? Because they just jumped a Savage 30 ft in the air, and it didn't break.

None of the truck mentioned deserved to be trashed that bad. They all have their good and bad points. Now, if the Choices were Savage, Revo, LST or Duratrax Thunderquake, I think anyone on these boards who has been around would say STAY away from the Duracrap.....

All 3 trucks RCDad mentioned are high quality trucks, and each have their good and bad points.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm being an @$$ that's not my intention.

savages are crazy durable! my manager at work know has a new 4.6 and he beats the crap out of it....and not to mention how Mr. Tune and NG drove theres.....

as for the LST ive only seen it on a track and it was tearing it UP!!!

the REVO also excelent on the track....but can also climb trees (firesprink)

my personal opinion is the Savage 4.6, ive been seresally thinking about getting one also.

Revo's do better on tracks probably because they look like they have a lower COG?
Reply

The CG is much lower on a revo, yes. I'm sure it helps the handling a ton.

the savage was made years ago for bashing in mind. The revo was made a year ago for racing in mind. Both trucks can be great bashers but for straight up bashing definatly get a savage. The reason you probly see a lot of savages crashing is because those 12 year old kids dont know how to jump or drive. Give the savage to someone who can drive like mr tune or newguy and they will be outside bashing all day long with little to nothing go wrong. They will be jumping all day long and flipping crashing and have little to no breakage. You can just say a savage isnt a good basher because thats what it was made to do.

Revo's entire design makes it a great racer. Lower of COG and the suspension makes it handle the tracks soo much better than a LST or Savage.
