That radio should have mutliple model memory, so yes it can

One thing to remember, after converting all of your RC's to JR rx's, if you ever want to run two of them at the same time, like running with your kids, you will need a second JR radio.
I personally kept my kids car on separate radios so we can race against each other.

No, you need JR synthesized FM rx's for each vehicle. I've read they run around $50 each.
If you are going to race, you see the benefits becuase you get the ability to change freq's at the track without cyrstals for the radio/car. You just turn the dials on the RX and program the TX.

There were a couplke of used ones for sale on the forums for around $150 with 2 rx's. That's a good deal.

IF you can pick up a decent used Radio w/ 2 RX's, GRAB it... Even if you just start off with the Savage and TC3 on one radio, and the Stampede's all on their own radios.
The regular JR XS3 (Black one) has a 6 model memory, which means you can store settings (Trim, frequency, servo reversing, etc...) for up to 6 cars/trucks. The XS3 Pro (Silver one) has a 10 model memory. If you are going to be doing any racing at all, I would HIGHLY recommend a Decent quality digital Radio. Preferably FM, beacause it has a "cleaner" signal than AM. You could go with a Crystal based radio, but you'll need to get a couple "Back-up" channels, just in case there is a conflict at the track. One of the BIG benefits of a digital radio, is the trim settings are kept in memory. Youi don't have to fine tune your trim each time you start your car. You have kids, I'm sure they like to turn the little dials sometimes....

i got one with 2 rx's in great shape for 130 shipped. Comes with 2 recievers, rechargable batteries with charger, and manual. This radio is definatly a good upgrade. Your response time is so much faster, your range is so much better, and plus you got channels 61-90 to choose from so you will never be sitting out.

And when you install those high torque steering servos, you NEED the end point adjustment you get in the better radios so that servo isn't "grinding" at full steering lock!
You can also use the "extra" model save locations to setup different settings for the same RC. You can have one for fast, open tracks with less steering and another for twisty tracks where you need more steering D/R. It saves changing the settings each time. The no crystal swapping for racers is the big thing!

This guy keeps arguing with me that you can use the JR XS3 with any receiver, he says you just dial the radio in to whatever crystal the receiver is using.

you can use the XS3 with just about any FM RX. heck for a while I was using my XR3 with a crystaled JR RX on one Rc, a synthesized JR RX ona another, a Novak XXL futabal model on another RC. Then I switched to the Airtornics M8 and still used JR Rx's and stuff with them with no problems. as long as they are all FM RX's and have the correct brand crystals to go with that RX it will be fine.

I stand thoroughly corrected on the subject.

Dad, Im using a novak FM receiver with an Airtronics crystal with my JR XS3. No problems

I think that that if you have a 27mhz FM radio you need a 27mhz FM receiver and vice versa w/75mhz radios.

ya why wouldnt it work the only reason why they were saying you need the synthesized reciever is so you can change the frequency if you need to. but its producing the same type of frequency so it should work its not like the spektrum

Dad, what kind of receivers do you have now?
08-11-2005, 11:52 AM
I've never heard of a 27mhz FM radio/transmitter.
27mhz = AM 75mhz = FM

My AM Futaba 2PL is a 75Mhz radio on channel 64. But I too have never heard of a 27Mz FM.

RCDad Wrote:So what receivers would work? 27 mhz, 75 mhz, am, fm? I was just at Futaba.com looking at this and they say clearly that you cannot mix AM and FM rx & tx. Check their site becuase they have a nice ref chart for freq's and channels. They also have a simple explanation of why there is 27, 50, 72, and 75 mhz out there. They also have a great answer to range of AM vs FM vs PCM. AND they explain the radio based failsafe system (like Spektrum uses, they use it in their PCM). A good info source site, even if you don't use or like Futaba.

Yes, it will only work with FM rx's. Now according to other posts it will work with other brands of FM rx's besides JR's. Just not with standard RTR model AM's.

And as soon as I write it down, I read this at Futaba about their 3PK radio: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stock Number Model Band Receiver Servos Modulation FUTJ32** 3PK 27 & 75 R203HF ––––––– FM/HRS FUTJ33** 3PK 27 & 75 R113iP ––––––– PCM Both include a transmitter NiCd and a dual-output charger. Both require servos and 6V Rx pack, FUTJ32** with R203HF requires digital servos 3PK Manual - 3PK Parts Listing __________ They make a 27mhz FM radio...now I've seen one. |
