That was F---ing HILARIOUS.... I've seen a ESFR head go off at close range, it isn't fun. Luckily, I haven't had the experience of a broken main YET...

It don't take long for that water to take on the funk.... I know the older systems are worse, but the new ones aren't a whole lot better. I got a facefull of sprinkler water once. :puke:

A couple months ago someone at my work was rolling out a cart of chips and busted off a sprinkler head. I wasn't there, but the next day there was still puddles of water in some spots and black spots all over the walls from the water. I heard it didn't even look like water coming out it was so black.

Sprink, Isn't this why most places are going to dry systems? So, water doesn't sit in the runs?

no, dry systems are used for exposure to cold climates. be it out side or in freezers. some places that have a lot invested in computers use whats called a pre-action system, where 2 things have to happen in order to set the valve off (smoke detector, "magic" wire, fusing a head, or they have a "huffer" system connected to it). huffers can "smell" a wire going bad and arm the valve.
dry systems are worse for corrosion. they have to be trip tested once a year then drained, but some water always stays in the pipe and that mixed with the air will rust it faster. anyways now im rambling.
ng, not all warehouses use esfr. he hit the under door pipe and cracked a thread, then tried to pull it back into place and ripped it all the way off.

NOT looking forward to that....
I know not all heads in a warehouse are ESFR. That is the only head I've seen blow. From the spray on the video, I knew it wasn't ESFR, way too small of a spray.

Yep... I had Bill keep an eye out for when they were doing testing to get in. It's a great trade. I just wish I would have gotten in when I was younger. Some of the work is a little rough on these old bones... lol
The running joke is that my Graduation from Apprenticeship and Retirement party will be at the same time.
It's all good. We have a real appretisaurus in my class. He started the trade at 45
