Hey does anyone know if I can use a 3c on a super rooster? I got a couple 4000mah 11.1 packs today and I'm dieing to try one out on my pede. I don't want to fry the esc though it's not mine lol. I looked on novaks site and it's capable of 10 cells which is 12.0 volts so maybe? lipo is 3.7 a cell nominal but peak I think is highter around 4.2 that would put me at 12.6 volts. They are not high quality packs though just some jap ones so the peak might not be as high. How do I test them for volts? Just use a dvom?

well on a dvom pack 1 read 12.5 volts at about 95% charged. The new uncharged pack read 11.5 volts so they actuall shipped them stable lol. Hopefully they perform well.

SOlong as you have a Li-Po cutoff or are really careful about not over discharging them, you chould be ok since it's good for 10 cells in Ni-Cd and Ni-MH packs.

a 3 cell lipo will charge to approximately 12.62 volts Jeff.. some I get 12.68 but the minimum is the .62... this is with the 6 lipo's that I own...
and I think there's some other technical bullshit that says you can't do it...
and yes!!! make sure you have a cutoff... from second hand info (my flying buddy) lipo's are not pretty when they burn up, lmao!! he ended up with the neighbors coming out from a block over to see what was happening and causing all the smoke... (that was after the explosion part that he said was pretty impressive)

tell you what, I dig the insane speed of the nitro... I really dug brushless, then I hooked a brushless motor to a lipo and it blow's away everything else!!! yeah, it's pricey, but once you get established (chargers, batteries, balancers, etc) then it's cool!!!

I'm charging these now with a venom balance charger lol Takes forever. It's good for my crawler packs but not a 4000 or higher. I'm gonna grab an onyx or ice when I get the $$ Not sure if the onyx discharges though.

stop dude!!! don't screw with that stuff...
either MRC or the Hobbico Accucycle... I've got both and I'll tell you why I like the accucycle...
the accucycle has more control, with lipo's this is the thing... the MRC, well, I had it for a week and the damned leads shorted and blew it up... I'm not an electrical genius, but this is poor design and the lack of a fuse in their poor design is well, just..... you know... anyhow, they did replace it adn I currently use it, but I like my accucycle better.... like I said, I have more control, it seems more user friendly (you have to program settings, but it takes minutes)
oh yeah, the MRC won't charge at the same rates that the accucycle does, faster rates means less recharge time, also the accucycle has the option of temp probes (cool sounding, but I haven't seen the need for them, maybe for bigger MaH cells?)a
anyhow, what I'm saying is wait an extra couple of weeks, spend fifty bucks more and get a charger that will do what you need to do rather than buying three chargers until you get the right one!

doesn't the ice do all that stuff too? It has all the programs and stuff plus the temp probe thingy lol I knew the mrc was decent but I remember your trouble. Whats that accucycle run? Which one is it?

That accucycle elite (I'm guessing yours) will only charge Batts up to 5000 mah. I soon see 8000 mah lipos in my future.
After checkin on them this looks like a good one. I also need a charger that cycles packs. The mrc doesn't

I've been drooling over Onyx 230 myself, it's only $80 plus it's an AC/DC charger:banana:

The more I look at it It really won't fit my needs. I need a cycler/discharger also. Though it s a nice charger for the price. Unless John has bad words on the triton I'm gonna get that one I think

The only thing I don't like about the Triton is that it's DC only, beyond that it's a great charger.

Jeff, that triton is fine, I haven't used one. I know both of mine have charge/discharge functions and are both ac/dc...
dc only???? build a power supply, the new RC Heli mag has an article on how to do it using a computer power supply (those are plentiful) get the right amperage and start building.... it sounds so simple I'm even thinking about trying it

Matt, let me see what specs we need.... when I make mine, I'm going to go buy a led lighted supply to trick it out, I don't need one anyhow, so I may as well have all the trick stuff
I will make one for you though, seriously, it sounds so simple even I'm going, duh :joy:

all we need is the main power supply from a pc that has the ratings we want, it's th box in the upper rear corner of your pc... open up the case and that sucker comes right out, trim about 50 wires and a couple of other things and you have a dc power supply...
by the way, Jeff/Matt, you have a pm in about 5 minutes...
