Some second hand info.

My neighbor has one. He said it was great until the pull start broke.
He said it was common because it is the same pull start from a .15.

They are not selling replacements because they are going to change it over to a roto-start.
As of about a week ago, they were not available and the first ones were going to go on new units anyway.

It is a paper weight until that happens. He normally deals with Als hobby shop, they can probably clarify.

What's a JT MBX truggy? BTW, there is such a thing as too much HP. I don't know but maybe this is it. I'd be curious to see how this all pans out.

A JT MBX truggy is a Mugen MBX-___ with a JT truggy conversion kit (Different gear ratio to match the bigger tires, riser blocks for the center diff, to accomodate the larger gears, etc...)

Not everyone is "Hardcore Racer", so there is no reason he shouldn't run ANY engine that he feels like running. If more HP is what he is looking for, then more power to him (No pun intended). Sure, there are better "Race" Engines out there, but they are not for everyone.

Back on Topic... Firesprink has a Collari .30, and other than the weak pullstart, I think he has been quite happy with it. The Collari is a quality engine, but they did drop the ball when it came to their pullstart. If you feel comfortable rebuilding your pullstart (Re-wrapping the spring, and cord) you can rebuild it with a stronger cord. or just wait for the Rotostart to come available.....

Actually the engine I have IS a roto-start. I'm not planning to race it, mostly because I don't think there is a class it would fit in (maybe outlaw)
Yes, it may be way too much ...but I think this is going to be pretty cool. Big Grin

I think that motor would suit that truggy just fine. Firesprinks runs good from what I can tell. I think it pulled 50mph in his Mutant Maxx when we were doing radar runs at the last Berwyn Bash.

i have 2 truggys with .30. i rewound one with a string from a ae .21 and have had no probs. and the other i use a starter box. strong motor, and loud!! it has a good power band. it might take some regearing to find the sweet spot. in the mutant it will back flip with ease.

Yeah, gearing will take some trial & error to get right but I'm starting out w/ 18t CB and 62t spur. I figure that the .30 will have a ton of bottom end so mild gearing w/ taller tires will soften the low end and add to top.

18t bell and a 62 spur will probably give you to low of a gear ratio. Thats a 3.4 ratio. You may start eating up clutches.

What's a standard buggy gearing 51/13?? 3.9

I also have a 15T but that's 4.1 w/ the 62T spur

I dont know of any buggy with a 51tooth spur, I think the largest is a 48 But I could be mistaken. Without any reduction at the ring and pinion, it has been my experience with the truggy conversion 4.15 is ideal for running the maxx size MT wheels and tires.

48T sounds right...I've never counted. I was going to be running 40 series, do you think I should still try for 4.1??

Idea Maybe 62/14 = 4.42 - the inceased tire dia.???

I would try a 14tooth first, and if you think its way too much low and you are losing soem high, go with a 15t. But I think you might have clearance issues (gear mesh) with a 15 or higher. I know when I had my k2 truggy I had to run a 14tooth because with a 15t I could not get a proper mesh.

SO it has to be trial and error, but I honestly dont think a 18t will work, 14t and try from there. Remember you dont want insane power that you cannot control. I run a 14t on my NR 528xr and it has more low and high end than I can handle, just ask anyone that was at our last race...

I've got an extra 17t 1/8th scale Ofna bell for sale if you want a variety of ratios. I'll sell it cheap and it's never been used.

I decided to use the Racer's Edge narrow 17t bell and MBX5 flywheel on my TZ powered Revo instead. I think the 17t/40t (2.2353 ratio) will be perfect.
