Screws
#1
After working on my Sportmaxx, eh..who am I kidding, after Rocco has been working on my Sportmaxx time and time again some of the important screws are stripping out. Can anyone give opinions on what kind of screws to get?

Black oxide hex head steel screws or even better the Blue hex head hard coated steel screws are the best out there. Ti, Stainless steel, and AL screws are either too soft or can not stand up to shearing and will snap easily. Coated Steel are the way to go.

Has anybody noticed that John knows everything about hardware.
In fact, almost everything about R/C in general.

And he's always willing to share his knowledge.

He gave up precious race time at Lesiure Hours last
week to help me out with a couple of tough problems.

Thanks John!!!

hey TRC, linky no worky.

Use either 10.9 or 12.9 black oxide screws like john said, I just got 5-100 count bags of different size screws for $25 from McMaster Carr. I would have liked to get some more 12.9, but the majority are 10.9. Still much better than stock and the other types listed above. They get really important when you run an all aluminium setup as the screws really take a beating cause nothing flexes anymore to absorb the shock like the plastic does.

Tony's screws are good sets to buy. They are all high graded 10.9 minumum steel coated screws.

whatever you do NEVER get stainless steel screws. Nothing but garbage. They tear, bend in funny ways, strip and break.

I wouldn't use the rcscrewz kit, they are stainless steel and bend very easily. Grab a pair of pliers and you can pinch the screw like it's aluminum. Try http://www.hexcrews.com
